Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help!

To all who helped this get started and keep it running, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, Ragtime Cowgirl for her Exclusive Live Transcription Service™, Fledermaus for his 15 minutes of fame, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Has that bus/van been in the lower right corner of the CBS Cam the whole time? Is it in the street or up on the sidewalk?

Arne, I feel privileged that I have been allowed to see this time in history. I am going to try to write down my observations for my grandchildren, who are too young to know what's happening.

Do you think they were smuggling Saddam, Ixnay or Otay out?

Pootie Poo is in deep doo doo if that is true.

Ollie was also on about an hour ago. He gave alot of information there. He repeated some in his latest report.

Would someone post the link to where I can hear Ollie?

From what has been posted of his reports 'today' vs. what he reported yesterday, it sounds like the exact same report. Given that most media people TAKE THE FREGGIN' WEEKEND OFF, even in the middle of the war, are we sure that Ollie's reports from today aren't just repeats of yesterday's reports? (maybe edited a little to change the order around?)

Bob claimed there were more of our tanks destroyed and that they had been towed off.... I saw the video jaunt that the iraqi's took today to claim the tank we abandoned and destroyed (looks like we hit it with a guided munition because one side is literally welded to the road. the Iraqi's were trying to use a recovery vehicle to pull it (get thi.....perpendicular to the treads) but after a while they gave up.... too heavy for their equipment to recover or could it be the jets that were flying over during their propoganda mission.... they left in a hurry

Thanks, I was wondering if the briefing time would change with daylight savings time. During the week, I leave for work before the press gets to harrass our generals. Yesterday, however, I was able to watch the entire briefing. Is it just me, or have the media types softened up a bit with thier questions? I only heard a couple of outlandish ones yesterday.

I'm not sure these people were really diplomats. We know the Iraqis have been getting military instructions from Russians, that's who these people were. If Saddam is alive, he's been in that Russian embassy. If still alive, was with them on their attempted jaunt to Syria.

Yup! I hope we got 'em!

Most importantly, why go to SYRIA rather than to Northern Iraq or to the south, where US and coalition forces are? Why the dash to Syria?

Iraq is surrounded by Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, and Iran... did I forget anyone?

Out of all of those, we have public or private support or tolerance from every country EXCEPT Syria, right?

If it looks like a duck... ??

Here's my attempted transcription of Ollie's initial report today.

Now I'm off to bed.

One of those guys, or Aziz (missing for some time) or their families.

Or, it could be Russian nationals who have been acting as advisors.

You are correct. If it is any of these Putin will earned a place on Dubya's bad list, and they Russia will be very, very sorry.

Could Russian "mercnaries" exist? i.e. Russians not associated with official Russian policy? After all, we kept hearing about "rogue KGB" folks engaged in the weapons trade. I just hate to overspeculate for the sake of speculation.
