I am almost sure Mr. Kelley was a lurker.
Sad news indeed. Prayers to his family, friends and collegues.
To: Rudder
Very bad, tragic news. Great writer, seemed like a genuinely decent guy....

"How utterly awful! He was among the very best there was. That's gonna leave a big hole on the Right."
This is a terrible loss!! He was talented and eloquent and had so much common sense. Dammit!!!!

"If this is the Michael Kelly I'm thinking it is, he was an excellent essayist and I will miss his columns."
It sure is, and so will I. Poor guy.

Agreed. And so soon after the death of another honest liberal.
We can't replace a loss like this.

Fox News said the guy was a contributer in the Washington Post. I'm not sure if he was a columnist or what, just that he had some things printed in the washington post.

Thanks. My favorite from Kelly was the one entitled something like (rough recall): "What you have to believe to be a liberal . . . "

Kelly drowned after the Humvee he was in overturned in a canal Bagdad is covered with canals. It is a major feature of the city. The tankers were worried that the canals would be flooded and the tanks would not be able to get across, but there has been no flooding, and little mention of the canals until now.

Thanks for this. My all-time favorite Kelly essay. What a loss to our culture. "Precious in the eyes of the L-rd is the death of one of his saints."

Tony Snow said a few minutes ago that Michael Kelly was the same age as he is, and left 2 small children.
What a loss.
