An excerpt from todays WSJ excellent editorial page. We are a fantastic country with noble aims-- in spite of the inferiority complex felt by the French Axis of Weasels...
As the war enters what appears to be the endgame, it's worth pointing out that everything President Bush promised about the way this war would be conducted has transpired. The bombing is precise and limited to military targets. Civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure are minimal. Humanitarian assistance is arriving. And coalition forces are providing medical attention for injured POWs and civilians.
This sure isn't the usual face of war, which destroys innocent lives and leaves cities in rubble. The only way that will happen now is if Saddam or his successor use chemical weapons or impose some other terrible disaster on their own countrymen. Otherwise, this war is about to end in a highly untraditional way: with Iraq's cities standing and its people alive and liberated.

A reporter on Fox --in Baghdad-- just said there are no armed emplacements visible in the city. Even the sandbagged emplacements are EMPTY today, unlike days before. Huh? They've either boogied *somewhere*, or they're in waiting for us. But it's definitely weird. I can't imagine Saddam et al would just leave Baghdad open for us, undefended.

One other possibility: It isn't Saddam et al who're leaving themselves unprotected. Maybe some smarter guys have figgered out they arent' worth dying for. We can hope.

The thing is we can all just sit back and watch them dig their own graves. No need to waste precious time worrying while they do all of their whining...

Gutter Topper!
I think that we have passed the end of the beginning. We may be near the beginning of the end. nIt really might take a couple months to pacify Bdaddy. But that won't be quite as exciting as the last two weeks have been.
How can we set up a provisional government in Iraq before we even have a chance to know who all the stakeholders are? We need to set up a military governorship until we have some degree of pacification.
You must be accurately when you are addressing General Arafat. Bye-Bye, (gotta go to dentist)

But where did they go? I can see the troops going back home, not really wanting to blown to smithereens, but where are the Big Guys, the Saddam loyalists--on their way to Syria?
Of course, I'm still waiting for the thousands of people to show up at the Baghdad airport to defend it against those evil coalition forces, as they were supposed to do. That didn't happen, either.
