This wasn't about the minister's faith in God, or should not have been.
It should have been about the minister's service to the legislators, and to the state of Maryland.
Of course, in our era of hyper-individualism, where we each think about ourselves, and what WE want to say first, it doesn't surprise me that a situation like this would be seen by certain types as an "opportunity" to create controversy.

As a Jew, I apologize for these nitwits.
As a Christian, I find your comment comforting.
Thanks.

A Muslim who speaks English has no problem with using the term "God." To him, it's the same.

IB, I am almost always on your side, but not this time. This was a Christian minister who was offering his prayers in his way: why is that not ok?
If only Christians were allowed to do this in Maryland, then I would agree with you; but this honor is rotated so it is cool for him to name Jesus. And, just FWIW, I am a Jew.

..you've got me mixed up with somebody else, Byron. I don't jump on "every vaguely religious thread" and put down your ministers. I really don't...Great! I must have confused you with another poster. Who cares, as long as- by your own admission- it's not going to happen again. My apologies, By

Illbay, I think sooner or later you're going to have to accept that you can't unite everyone into one religion. Each will say his prayer and others will be tollerant. I don't bear these Jewish people any disrespect, but they are not respectful of this man's faith. His prayer was not an insult to them. Joseph went into Egypt where the Pharoes worshiped other Gods. He thrived there, even working for high government officials. I doubt he demanded they abstain from their religious practices in front of him. I doubt they demanded he change his views. That's all were talking about here.

Rejecting Jesus as messiah does not necessarily mean that one does not believe in God.

Say we had an all Muslim state Senate. Should anyone be surprised if they don't want to hear references to anyone but "Allah" You ask a very good question. If you examine the current demographic trends in Israel, it is estimated that the majority of Israelis will be Muslim and Christian Arabs by the year 2020. When that occurrs, I hope the majority are more tolerant than the views I am reading on this thread.

I think your mileage would vary, depending on the tolerance of the Muslim involved.
Christians are so used to being in the majority we have become over confident and should remember in cases like this one, what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

"What a time for Jews to start making trouble with Christians. We need to stick together."
As a Jew*, I agree 100%. American Jews have been deserting the liberal plantation in droves the last couple of years. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that a majority still cling to doctrines and attitudes that originated over 100 years ago in the immigrant warrens of New York City. With the multi-cult left having openly merged with Islamic extremists and neo-nazis since 9-11-01, I'm not sure what else is needed to bring them over to the side of their own survival, but I will keep trying.
The offended Jewish legislators, in particular, are simply adhering to long-standing leftist doctrines of multi-cultural inclusion. The objective here, of course, is not really inclusion or equality, but a veto over the expressions of the majority. So, they are "offended" at the mention of Jesus. Too bad, the Christian minister is not pronouncing policy or making law, and I think those are the only areas where such objections can be legitimately be made. The complaints reflect an underlying assumption that every pronouncement made in an official forum essentially carries the weight of law. This, in turn, is an interesting comment on the left's view of (and hopes for) governmental and official power. Comparing this to the flap over the Muslim prayer in the House provides yet another striking example of multi-cult hypocrisy and duplicity.
* This by itself is a politically incorrect expression these days, since multi-cult ninnies prefer "person of Jewish heritage" and similar newspeak, which is the main reason I persist in using it.

Jesus is not part of the Trinity? When you call upon any one of the three names do you not call upon the same single being? Yesuha/Jesus is the NAME. Father, Son, Holy Spirit are titles: I have a son, his NAME his Jonathan, your father doesnt go by "father" on his drivers license does he, I know this sounds mudane as examples...etc
- The new test is very explict concerning the NAME of Jesus. The NAME of Jesus has power and authority. Look up some other scriptures the epistles of Paul are full of this doctrine.

..a prayer to God, without reference to Jesus Christ, would be appropriate no matter your religion--even Hindu...He he. Why not add Baal?
