Hmm, reminds me of a midevil siege strategy, the french pulled such a thing in the 13th century on King Richard's Chateau Gaillard in Normandy, instead of fighting they just isolated them from the supply lines for over 6 months and starved the residents of the already overcrowded castle, since the surrounding townsfolk had taken refuge within its walls
Finally, as enough British dies, the French were able to scale the walls with little or no reisitence
(One of the few successful French military ventures)

I heard a retired General on FN earlier discuss a few ways of approaching B-dad..he seemed to think to protect civilians and troops, they may just surround B-dad, wait for Iraqi people, surrendering troops to come out. They will gather intel, send in spec. ops and slowly dismantle the remaining bad guys within.
