About 100 Iraqi soldiers engaged Kurdish ``peshmergas'' with small arms fire just after dark. U.S. special forces called in air support while about 150 Kurds fought from their positions around the bridge near Bardarash, 12 miles northeast of Mosul. The U.S. forces estimated 50 Iraqis were killed, but there were no casualties among among the Kurds or Americans. The other Iraqi soldiers fled. ... |
