I love your post, but
(before this, we had NO idea what war was really all about!!) I take some issue with this.
Plenty of material going back to almost the beginning of warfare that explains it well! But I get what you mean! It's amazing.

You know, the apparent lack of ability to immediately exploit the Iraqi airfields has certainly baffled me. Something is not quite what it seems to be, but I haven't figured out what the disconnect is.

Maybe they don't need them for warfare and are setting up future CnC centers for after the conflict.
Total guess, I too have no idea.

You know, the apparent lack of ability to immediately exploit the Iraqi airfields has certainly baffled me. Something is not quite what it seems to be, but I haven't figured out what the disconnect is. The coalition has captured other Iraq airfields and started using them.
I'm guessing the ones they don't grab are either mined real heavy or the Iraqis have arty zeroed in from the hills above the airfield and it's not a good move to take the field.
Give them engineers a couple hours and SHAZAM!! instant airfield.

Thanks Tree, I just pointed out that I was zoning out, and I heard her response. It penetrated my fog because it seemed out of the norm for her. Sorry everyone...I didn't mean to besmirch the Dhue.

Please don't take exception to what I said.
What I mean is, we are seeing it, hearing it as it happens, much different than reading about it in a history book, or even someone telling you of their experiences. This is a FIRST.
I sure appreciate the sacrifice of all the military much more after seeing all the hell they go thru on a day to day basis out there in the desert!

I heard someone on the radio today, G. Liddy maybe, who said British SAS had stopped suicide bombers from Syra in western Iraq. The person said we should let them come so we can mop up as many of the Islamakazis as we can while we're there.
It made sense to me. If they want to charge our tanks with AKs then let's thin the herd.

That could lead to a public flogging! Laurie Dhue, or Grenada?

I agree that it's a first.
And it will make a huge impact on the video generation. It's almost too bad since you can get a vivid picture of war from reading and history.
We had the same visuals in WWII and Korea and even more in Vietnam. But the instantaneous of it now is wild! The interaction with the public is awesome. Now we can point and click and send a pizza to a soldier in Kuwait City manning a patriot battery!
Sure beats having to try a victory garden...I have a brown thumb! lol
