I think it's kind of like that scene in "Independence Day" with all those idiots on the roof partying and holding signs ("Stop and Party!") when the aliens were coming to blow them up.

How many in an Iraqi division? and who was the guy on the tarmac if it was being defended. This is truly the "fog of war" Classically, a "division" is about 10,000. In most armies, it is pretty safe to figure out about that many. For our military, it is reasonable also, but the type of division is pertinent to know - infantry, armored, etc. If you know the type of division in the US, you can get a real good idea. I believe an Iraqi "division" was scheduled to be a fair bit larger than 10,000.
"Element of a division" is just some part of it - it could be only a couple hundred or nearly the whole division.
Given the massive attrition which has been inflicted on these Iraqi forces, I suspect that there are far less than 10,000 around the airport. One of the major divisions was essentially deployed in that area, though, and may be fairly intact.

Is it just me or is this a very slow news day. Guess another day in the Quagmire just doesn't punch up the newsrooms the way it used to. And with only a few days left in the Quagmire, they had better get going.

I guess you could say we are going through the Rep.Guard like Grant took Richmind. Lots of superficial similarities

Haha,,the quagmire may be shorter than they think,,sort of like, well, a teeny mud spot. And the retreat isn't going too well either what with the pesky cheering enemy holding us up.

I see some benefit in getting along with Turkey, Russia and China, but Germany and France can't hurt us or help us much it seems. I unequivocally, fully second your observation.

I've got the CBS cam link up and running. You're right, you can't see much except the faint outline of a palm tree or two in the lower right and the headlights of an occasional passing vehicle. But the sound works fine. If you turn it up you can hear the vehicles go by and an occasional horn or explosion in the distance.
The camera I'm accessing with a DSL connection is at: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/videoplayer/newVid/video_display_new.html?clip=LiveWebCast

I knew what you meant. :) I was just being humorous. I realize they have put up a fight but they have a habit of "big talk" as in the '91 "Mother of All Battles".
