I missed that anecdote about Tennet ... Good for him. He deserves to be proud of his organization for once. It really seems that the CIA/DIA has done an exceptional job in preparing our troops and the battlefield for this WASH (War Against Saadumb Hussein).

I'll buy that for a some of it. But why be stupid enough to inform the press and think they'd hold off?

Believe it or not, a number of American media people had known for a couple of DAYS that a POW had been located, but they all sat on the story at CENTCOM's request so that the rescue mission could be attempted. Once the mission ended, of course, they did just what you suspected. Like I posted above, it appears to be some combination of ABCNEWS radio, the AP and NBC News television that broke the embargo. From what I've read, ABCNEWS is the most likely gun-jumper, but I can't prove anything because I don't have access to the direct AP wire any more.

Desperation can make you crazy. I hope we're witnessing the demise of the peacock as we currently know it.

I woke up hearing the panel on Fox saying the Baghdad Division of the RG had been overrun at Al Kut & rendered ineffective. That would be Ollie's unit, right? 1st MEF?

Odd. When I went to bed at midnight, Ollie's unit was sitting still and he was filing multiple reports, but didn't say anything about engaging the BAG DIV of RG.

I wondered why one of the spokes people made it a point to thank Fox News for their professionalism as a news organization.

Ooh! When did they do that?

I kept waiting for the news conference and must have missed it. It must have been VERY short.

Maybe three sentences. And one of those was "I'm going to read a statement and I'm not taking any questions."

I don't understand what is so hard about slapping around wimpie bureaucrats. I'll volunteer!
*L* You'd probably have to stand in line.

Our President is very patient and he seems to prefer sitting back and waiting for the idiots to cook their own goose. I hope that's what he's doing in this case.

NO NO NO...I cook the small birds because it's only my wife and I. Die Fledermaus, other than being a German opera, is translated literally to flying mouse. Germans don't have a translated word for "bat". But Die Fledermaus is "the bat" loosely.

There's been serious questions as to the survivability of MSNBC for a few months now. They've been at the very bottom of the ratings barrel for a LONG time now.

It is Ollie's unit :) and I'm trying to figure out why they've crossed the Tigris so far south.

Do you mean Sheila Jackson Lee? I just ignore her like I do Hillary Clinton when she talks about national security. Neither of them have a clue about what they're saying.

I think Shep Smith on Fox News said that it was AP that reported it first.

But it's just recently that they seem to be working overtime to finish themselves off. If only their demise would also bring about the demise of the broadcast network....
