If I recall my 20th century history, weren't Syria and Iraq part and parcel of a single protectorate and before that part and parcel of the late great Ottoman Empire?

My only point is the obvious one. Syria is Iraq is Syria is Iraq.....

After WWI the British got Iraq, Palestine and Jordan, and Kuwait was carved out of the Iraqi part, the Saudis formed their own country, and France got Syria and Lebanon.

France, Syria? Figures!
