Arnett is the same Arnett who reported the Marines "used gas" early on in 1965 in Qui Nhon, South Vietnam. 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines were sweeping and area full of known VC and the commander (LtCol Leon Utter) authorized the use of gas...plain ol' simple tear gas! In doing so, he flushed out caves and tunnels and saved hundreds of innocent lives. Arnett reported this "use of gas" in a sensationalism report and Utter damned near lost his command and career...fortunately, an Army general had operational command of the battalion (the only one in that area) and halted the damage. Utter went on to receive two Silver Stars during his your as battalion commander (he was a former WW2 USMC private in battle on Okinawa as well). Utter passed away in 2000...a fine commander and officer who did the right and humane thing at great "plitical risk"...Arnett is a scumbag. He was "fired"??? He sould be ostricized by his peers and nevr hold a reporting position again!
