I refused to help Bush: PM
Amitabh Srivastava
Patni (Satna), March 27
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday told the media how George Bush thrice sought his help in the war on Iraq, and how he refused the American President.
"The US President George Bush has spoken to me three times saying that India must help the USA as Sadaam Hussein had left him with no option but to go for the attack," he told journalists after a dedication programme of the Chakara Nala Patni Watershed Management Plan prepared by the Deendayal Research Institute run by Nanaji Deshmukh here.
Vajpayee told Bush that India believed war was not a solution to any problem and so could not help. India is also trying to consolidate the support of many countries to prevent escalation of the battle between US and Iraq, Vajpayee said.
"I have written to the heads of many countries including China, Russia, France and USA as we are very seriously concerned with this war which goes against the United Nations," Vajpayee said.
Vajpayee has said in in an all-party meeting that though India does not support the war, there is no need for harsh words.
He also asked the people of the country to be prepared for adverse repercussions of the war between US and Iraq, which will have repercussions on India.
Asked about the killing of 24 Pandits in Pulwama, the the Prime Minister said this was an act of desperation by terrorists.

In case you've been living in a cave, Indian Hindus have been the target of Muslim atrocities since time immemorial. Nice to know that we can count on them in a pinch.

He's just mad because we're backing Musharraf. If you'll remember, Mr. "war [is] not a solution to any problem" Vajpayee was on the brink of war with Pakistan a couple years ago over the terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir. India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers.

Vajpayee told Bush that India believed war was not a solution to any problem ¿Didn't Rumsfeld have to go over there about six months ago to prevent Pakistan & India from going into a nuclear war?

I agree, Also put pressure on these big companies to stop shipping IT work over there. That would never happen.

He's just mad because we're backing Musharraf.I think you're right. I think he'd come around to the USA side in a pinch, but he'd ask hin return that we not be so chummy with Pakistan. He's got an electorate to keep happy, after all, and a population to protect. He can't be too conciliatory with the friend of his enemy, even if it's only a friendship of convenience.

It's geopolitical tit for tat - if the U.S. keeps supporting Islamic Fundamentalist Pakistan and Communist China against India, which are both bleeding India white, then India won't support the U.S., in any endeavor.
India has never needed the U.S., unlike Pakistan. India is completely and utterly self sufficient, agriculturally, financially, militarily, economically, culturally, spiritually, and morally.

Except it rid Our Nation of British tyrants, [And their mercenaries] defeated slavery, defeated communazism -- and rid all of Asia, India included, of Human History's fourth most prolific mass murderer, Hirohito's, brutal and barbaric butchers, rapists, robbers, thieves, looters and liars.

Well sorta.
With a little help from its every-bit-as-abjectly-corrupt Soviet "Friends."

There has not been a "Soviet" for at least 14 years.

After 911, India made great efforts to assist the US in just about whatever we wanted....I almost saw it as the kid in the back of the classroom with his arm raised, popping out of his seat saying "Me, me, me, pick me, please" to the teacher. Each time, he was "overlooked" - but because of the US position on Pakistan (overlooking THAT mess) I think India realized how much of a friend the US really is to them.
Can you blame them?
