For the last few months I have been representing one of the most talented musicians (even though she is only 18) that I've ever seen, getting her gigs here in the Houston area. I can tell you for fact, the charity gig is a BIG rip-off, with only about 15-20% of the proceeds ever making it to the charity. The rest is cut up among the entertainment, speakers, rent, food, chairs, tables, etc. Hosting a charity event has become one big profitable business, for everyone but the charity. And how do I handle my fiddle player? She takes only basic expenses (she drives to Houston from San Antonio and stays out our home, so her expenses amount to reimbursing gas and meals) but I know of one local country band that won't set foot on a stage (for a charity event) for less that a $5,000 guarantied and that's to play one 45 minute ....disgusting!

. . .agree and more disgusting is how much self-serving mileage they get on their own PR for doing such'charity'.
