>>People in the third world don't recall that the reason Lyndon Johnson lost support was not because our men were dying, but because they were dying for no reason and no sight of victory<<
People here don't recall it either.
Remember WHY Vietnam was a big clusterf*ck BUMP!

Amen to that brother..people forget how LBJ had a sand table of Vietnam built in the WH..he'd personally approve EVERY target.....what a joke....the only bigger clown was Robert STRANGE McNamara ( was ever a man more aptly named?)..I saw the pics of Rummy hosting a luncheon for former SecDefs a few days ago..he was shaking hands with McNamara...I'm surprised he could stomach it...

Sorry I have been absent. My husband accidentally let our very large coonhound out and I have been trying to catch her. Now that I have done so, I will go back through the thread and reply to anyone who had a question or comment to me.

I recall it quite well. It was so screwed up that many families were actively trying to keep their children out of the military--not in the "protester" sense, but via college defers, "necessary job" defers, etc.
LBJ was actually directing the bombing runs from the floor of the Oval Office--which is why they made no military sense at all.
LBJ should be much more reviled than he is---not in Clinton-class, but a strong #2.
