Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Taking my cue from the Wizard, I'm going to start using the term "Saddamocrats" in casual conversation. If enough people did this, it might enter into the common vernacular.

Rumor is that the 3rd car is being airlifted in from Germany, probably to the north. Most of the 1st DIV will probably stay out of it.

I warned avaryone last night about this BS article from TR?

This is the first citation I could find, although I also believe it was said in a speech.
Trust Tony's Judgement
Here is the operative paragraph:
In the face of the foot dragging, hawks in America have been pushing for an immediate attack on Iraq. Some of them want regime change for reasons other than disarmament, and, therefore, they have discredited the inspection process from the beginning; they did not want it to succeed. Because military action probably will require only a few days, they believe the world community will quickly unite on rebuilding Iraq as soon as Saddam is deposed.
It is so nice that he put this in writing! I hope this is enough to convince you that he made a concerted effort to raise expectations. There is another article somewhere in which he gave a speech saying the same thing, but I hope you will forgive me if I don't bother to look for it. I have a lot to catch up on.

I recall it quite well. It was so screwed up that many families were actively trying to keep their children out of the military--not in the "protester" sense, but via college defers, "necessary job" defers, etc.
LBJ was actually directing the bombing runs from the floor of the Oval Office--which is why they made no military sense at all.
LBJ should be much more reviled than he is---not in Clinton-class, but a strong #2.

This is the last one for now...
Several soldiers taking a break around thier tank with sun streaming through the clouds...

The media is being ardently anti-Bush because they know the war is going extremely well and that Bush's approval will skyrocket after Iraq falls. Therefore, they want to leave a residual bad taste in American's mouths to soil the coming Bush halo.
Beyond this, watch for the media to tie GWB 43's political and economic fortunes exactly to those of his father after the Gulf War. It's coming.
And that is why we must make damn sure that all future contracts in Iraq flow to American and British firms. Our economy needs the lift. And oil revenue and/or frozen Iraqi assets are going to have to pay for the war, so that we can get the full GWB tax cut through Congress... it's the moderates price for getting the entire tax cut.

"Quick" is three weeks to a month. I swear it feels like it's already been a month at least.

Not even worth mentioning. I just wish a city sanitation crew would show up with a garbage truck and accidently drop it on them.
If they plan on acting like a pile of shit, they might as well join a pile of shit.

AHA!!
MY strategy was the correct call!!!

He didn't phrase it quite like that at all. Now he's on TV trying to clean up what he said.
To: Miss Marple
My only request was for a cite on your assertion that CLINTON is the one who stated the war would be 'quick and easy.'
It would not surprise me in the least that Clinton is sandbagging GWB--but the evidence would be VERY useful...
To: Howlin
I find it so strange to glance at my TV and see the weather guy standing in front of Iraq! It takes me awhile to figure out why the picture looks different.

Yes
Big Red One (1st Div) going into Northern Iraq. Likely to move south towards Bag
To: Howlin
Because he works there, believe it or not.

I send this to all the "how long is it going to take" whinners out there:
Based on assorted Military reports from all sources available, it appears to this viewer that Baghdad is on the verge of Fall.
Saddam's reign is about to end.
When reviewing the type of fighting Saddam's forces have reverted too, harrassing minor skirmishes, rather than full scale military engagements, (the only way to possibly stop the coalition forces from taking Bagland) it becomes clear that he no longer has any means of preventing the Coalition from taking Baghdad, and once that happens this war is over.....
Please note: I accept there is one nasty MF battle about to happen, "The Battle Of Baghdad", and it may reign for a few days.
But on the other side of this sand storm, this evening our time, the battle will be engaged by the close ground support, Apaches, Warthogs, and F15's and there is no ground force on earth, even our own, that can withstand that.
That is then coupled with M1-A1 tanks, sitting a mile out of range, throwing in shot after shot without any challange from overhead air craft......
This war is about to end.....
I hope some of the Iraqi soldiers who would rather be farmers can get away.
And may I say, as a representative of the Good Lord here on Earth, The American Military, under the guidence of President Bush, has set the Gold Standard in fighting War:
No war was ever fought in such a generous, compassionate way.
EVER
