Had Clinton Resigned, Gore Would Be President Now
Democrats Vs Republicans - The Continuing Clash

I'm going through an old book I acquired and it notes that every "accidential President" of the 20th century (Roosevelt, Coolidge, Truman and Johnson) were elected in their "own right" by formidable or comfortable margins.
So there you have it folks, while Democrats put party over country, they elected Clinton who put poontag over party and screwed them by not resigning.
Thank God for Bill Clinton's selfishness, otherwise Al Gore would be President in this time of crisis.

I disagree. Gore would have been president from 1998 to 2000, but still would have lost in 2000, IMHO.

You forgot the one example most similar to your hypothetical situation: Gerald Ford lost in 1976 to Jimmy Carter.

Proof positive--God does use bad things to make good things happen--even if the path is sometimes very long and winding.

Can you imagine some of the speeches Gore would have given to our troops?
"We are the human community, all connected by the need for interpersonal interrelationships. We must not enforce our will on Saddam. We will show him love, for the Bible says that those who live by the sword shall die by the sword, and that love will activate his desire to integrate with the vast human community....(snore).

I'm sure Gore would have done fine. I see a beautiful Mosque where the WTC stood. Then we would dissolve congress and have the UN run the country. Just like PeeRot says, there's not a dimes worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans. Oh yeah. thanks Ross, for eight years of Hillbilly Clinton with apologies to hillbillies.

...notes that every "accidential President" of the 20th century ... Every one except the one that became president after a resignation. You forgot Gerald Ford.
Nixon resigning cost the Republicans control of the house for over 20 years.
The Democrats knew that and that is why the stood behind Clinton. To save their party.

Had Clinton Resigned, Gore Would Be President NowYeah, and if Clinton hadn't let his personal hedonism take precedence over his ability to do his job, and if he had dealt with Bin Laden, Saddam, and a multitude of other world situations with which he proved feckless, Gore would be President.

Well..... If the Terrorist had attacked the Towers a year earlier. The elections would have been put on hold, congress would have extended Clintoon's term for emergency reasons and CLINTON surely would have declared a "State of Emergency" maybe "Martial Law" and would still be PRESIDENT!
So it could have been even worse.

And right now he'd be the CIC, bravely ordering the elite troops of the Planned Parenthood division of the Reproductive Rights Army to invade the Third World for Operation Abortion Freedom.

The very thought of a President Al Gore gives me the creeps. Can you imagine how he would have responded to the events of 9-11? We would be still waiting for the UN to protect us from the threat of terrorism and I bet gas would be at least $4 per gallon by now with the US economy on the tank.
To: Doctor Raoul
Shoot...Had Gore resigned as VP when x42i was impeached, Gore would have been president today.

Can you imagine some of the speeches Gore would have given to our troops? You mean under Gore we would still have troops? The "War is bad for children and other living things" Gore? I can imagine speeches he might have given to GLAAD conventioneers, but not to our troops. He would have transferred the defense budget to reward inner city mayors instead.
