Capitol Hill Blue, the oldest daily news site on the Internet, has been sold to a group of working Washington journalists.
Doug Thompson Media, owner and operator of the web site since its debut on the Web on October 1, 1994, announced today that it has agreed to sell the site to Capitol Hill Journalism Partnership.
"Capitol Hill Blue is a pioneer in web-based journalism," said partnership spokesman William J. Lowrey. "We intend to honor that tradition and improve upon it."
The partnership is composed of working, Washington-based journalists who work for print, broadcast and web-based media outlets.
"We intend to use Blue as a test bed for new techniques and concepts for web journalism," Lowrey said.
Capitol Hill Blue first appeared on the web on October 1, 1994, as a one-page weekly newsletter published by veteran journalist Doug Thompson. He expanded publication to daily on January 1, 1995, and the site gained fame during the Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky scandals of the Clinton administration.
Thompson left the publication earlier this month to pursue new opportunities.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed. The new owners will take control of the web site on April 1, 2003.

I hope that Thompson will still write for them on occasion.
I liked his "RANTS."

Thompson tells it like it is, no fluff.

"We intend to honor that tradition and improve upon it." IIRC, didn't they say something like that when The American Spectator was sold?

Wow, CapitolHillblue.com, there's a blast from the past.
I remember back in 1996, getting online with a 28.8 modem and running Windows 3.1,(LOL about that now) and coming across Doug's site, then National Review,Townhall.com and thinking 'this Internet thing is great'. I remember visiting that site way back when.(That was when most people just put up their lists of 'Favorite Web-sites' they'd come across on their horribly-plain web-pages.LOL) Wow. To think that the Internet is still in the infant stages after less than 15 years, can make one absolutely delirious.

Capitol Hill Blue publisher Doug Thompson terminated plans to sell the web site today after he learned the new owners planned to close ReaderRant on April 30.
The terms of the sale gave Doug the right to review the plans of the new owners and cancel the sale before its completion on April 1. The list of changes included plans to close the bulletin board on April 30. When the purchasers refused to honor his request to leave ReaderRant open and operating in its present form he terminated the sale agreement.
Capitol Hill Blue will remain part of the Doug Thompson Media group of companies.

Crabby not me. This was initiated early today.
Maybe we should have the Daily Benedict Arnett Award to the phoney conservative who posts the most negative articles from Reuters, AFP, Pravda, BBC, the NY and LA Slimes and of course from ABCNNBCBS.
It is obvious that some of these losers in political life have sided with Soddomite like Arnett has.

The trouble is, you're unqualified to determine who deserves such an award.
While we may not always agree with him, Doug Thompson has long earned the respect of many on this forum.
I suggest you keep your adolescent smears to yourself.

My tagline serves as a constant reminder that Dubya does NOT have a conservative mandate.
There were many who literally held their nose to vote for him over Algore simply as the lesser of two evils. Those include the many GOP primary supporters of Forbes, Keyes, Quayle, Bauer, Smith, Hatch and even (barf) McCain. Just because Dubya eventually squeeked out a win, don't let it get into your pompous head that you're qualified to be some kind of self-anointed Lord Protector of conservative thought. You're NOT.

Proud to be a Bushbot than a Patbot who hates America and GW.Well that's YOUR problem, not mine.
This article is about CHB and Doug Thompson, not GWB and PJB.
Keep your superficial little stinkbot smears to yourself.
Doug Thompson has earned more respect for his opinion than that.

But if my strongly worded defense of Doug Thomspon's reputation scares you, maybe you should back-off from your keyboard for a little while, and go change your Depends.
