A PRETTY 19-year-old country girl who joined the US Army to escape unemployment was feared to be the first woman soldier to die yesterday.
Blonde Jessica Lynch was among 12 soldiers in a US supply convoy ambushed by Iraqi troops. Her parents were left weeping like others in America and Britain as more Coalition victims of the war were identified.
Supply clerk Jessica was feared dead after five survivors from the ambush were paraded before Iraqi TV cameras in sickening footage beamed around the world on Sunday.
Also shown were the bodies of the other seven members of the 507th Maintenance Co convoy, but Jessica’s parents could not identify her among them.
Her father Greg Lynch said: “The only thing they can tell us is she’s missing.
“I just want them to bring her back safely — her and all the rest of the kids.”
Private Jessica — known as Jessie — only joined up because she could not find a job in her farming community home town of Palestine, West Virginia.
Lorene Cumbridge, a 62-year-old cousin, said: “She’s just a West Virginia country girl. Warm-hearted. Outgoing. I really thought growing up she would become an elementary school teacher.

But for West Virginia children in some of the more rural areas, the military is the one good chance of getting an education and making something of themselves.”
Lack of jobs and the military service of her older brother, Gregory Lynch Jr., led Jessica into the Army, her father said.
She signed up before graduating from Wirt County High School in Elizabeth, where she played basketball and softball.
Greg said: “The Army offered a good deal.” Jessica’s brother is stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Locals have been supporting Greg, Jessica’s mother Deidre, and her 17-year-old sister, Brandi Renee.
A yellow ribbon was tied to a tree near the family’s mailbox and two others were attached to posts on the front porch.
Sending only men to die does not directly serve that purpose. So it shouldn't matter if women are sent.
Yes. To call them animals is an insult to animals. Animals are not evil. They simply behave instinctively. People who would behave in this manner are savages, sub-human savages. The Muslim world is stuck back in medieval times. Except for their crooked leaders, who live in luxury, they haven't progressed. And so they behave just as they did in medieval times. They haven't assimilated into the modern, civilized world, and they resist all attempts to help them assimilate. Rather than permit us to bring them up to our level, they wish to drag us down to their level and destroy us both in mutual annihilation. Theirs is a culture of fear, repression, barbarity, and death.
How so? And I have done my homework and I have read all the arguments. Blacks during the slave days knew not to rise up against their masters. You won't find men saying it is ok to send women into combat, they are excoriated if they do. Tell me why women shouldn't protect men the same way that men protect women?
Precisely. Not wanting women to serve in combat roles has nothing to do with sexism or chauvinism. It is strictly about the requirements to do the job. If you don't meet the requirements, you're a hindrance, and you endanger both yourself and others. A 90 pound weakling male wouldn't be fit even though he's a man, so it has nothing to do with the notion that women are inferior.
However, the NOW gang has twisted the whole concept by making it a matter of sexism and chauvinism, in the same way that they've sold abortion as being a woman's right to choose, automatically making anyone who's against abortion guilty of sexism when that's not the case nor the point.
She attends a VERY liberal arts magnet high school, and all her friends and teachers had very high hopes for her in college, then opera. When she told me she felt called to go into the Air Force, I was very proud, but the rest of her "crowd" has been, for the most part, predictably "devastated". Other parents have berated me for "allowing" my daughter to "waste her life" for an "immoral cause".
My daughter has one of her best buddies in the Marines right now, (a sweet boy named Valentine, please pray for him) crossing into Iraq now as we speak, and she can hardly wait to go herself. She is, as a good freeper gal should be, irritated at all the mindless peacenikism surrounding her. So she made a t-shirt saying:
Anti-war
Pro-Saddam
Pro-rape
and she wore it to school. Talk about taking fire...
Curse the Iraquis who have no sense of honor in war. They are nothing more than thugs and terrorists. Others have been quick to condemn our nation's intentions, but stay silent when there are barbaric actions from our opposition.
The best way to see prejudice is to use race. It makes it real clear.
The point is that the most effective warriors should be sent to fight.
Why the assumption that men are the most effective? The Israelis have used women quite effectively.
You seem to be saying that everyone should have an equal right to die in war.
They should. It is only your sexist belief that makes it sound silly. Everyone should have an equal right to die just as everyone has an equal right to live. Forcing one sex to be the sole bearer of that ill fate is treating that sex as disposable.
And that is so indicative of the liberal mentality and morality. They call our troops killers, when it's the Iraqi troops who are killers. They call our President a dictator, when it's Saddam Hussein who's a dictator. The brain and soul of a leftist are both wired backward, and they see everything in reverse. And so they see truth as lie and lie as truth, good as evil and evil as good, and so on. In a universe in which everything functions according to God's laws, leftists function in reverse, like a river trying to flow upstream or a dropped object going up into the air. They are an aberration.
It is hard to see sexism sometimes. If you exchange the sexes for race it is eaier to see.
Despite all our technology these days, a big component of of combat is still physical strength.
And standards should not be lowered to include women. Never. But women should not be kept out because men feel this need to protect them. We should be instilling this protection need in our women as well. Where are the movies showing the woman getting killed rescuing a man? Aren't men worth it?
