This is great news and an awesome start. Next mission... Deport all ME illegals and close the borders to all those wishing to enter from hostile countries.

In defense of Al-Jazeera, this satelite TV station is breaking ground in the Arab world.

Not being pro-Arab could be interpreted as being a CIA-run station, therefore Al-Jazeera has to prove itself in the Arab world.

Eventually, Al-Jazeera will become a thorn in the flesh to the local Arab dictators. Al-Jazeera independence cuts both ways.

That being said, I'm glad American TV stations refrained from showing the gruesome video of executed American soldiers.

Even though it is available in the Internet, I will never watch it.

"We believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the media," Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations"

GO POUND SAND, they aren't censoring, or keeping you from you Freedom of speech rights. I admire and support their decision 100%.

Has anyone ever noticed that blue eyed fembot reporter from CNBC is really quite stupid??? I watch her ask some of the weakest questions on follow-ups; she really has no clue.

"We believe in freedom of speech and freedom of the media," Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American- Islamic Relations, told Reuters. "It (the ban) would set a bad precedent, merely because of which area of the world they cover.

Is it just me and my loathing of this muhammaden element, or does this bull$hit statement make no sense and convey *nothing*!?   (once again, btw)

Al-Jazeera is perfect proof that the ultraliberals' constant loopy bleating about the "conservative/corporate-controlled media" is utter and total bulls---. The news channel is owned by the Emir of Qatar, arguably the most modern-thinking, Western-compatible leader in the whole Arab world. Yet he leaves the running of the channel to - DUH - the editors and reporters, a huge number of which are Wahabbists and pro-Saddamites, people who would probably be more than happy to see him overthrown and replaced by Osama bin Laden.

Who owns the channel almost NEVER matters. All that matters is who's in charge of putting stuff on the air.

I see your point; could it not be argued however that the less left the ownership, the harder the producers et al push to "prove" they're not swayed?

Prime Example: FoxNews & Sky News in the UK...FoxNews was carrying some Sky coverage over the weekend when the reporter voice over started going into some near antiwar jag, and the folks at Fox cut the sound & talked over the video.
