***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 5 - LIVE THREAD***
Everywhere! | 23 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Posted on 03/23/2003 8:56:32 PM PST by null and void

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Shoes removed is probably a no running tactic. my best guess.

My mom and I try to collaborate on the news and she gave me some info about this today. Apparently showing someone the bottom of your shoe is a huge insult. Remember the video of the Iraqi citizen smacking the poster of Saddam with his shoe? That is a big thing there, lots of symbolism.

I wonder if the shoes were removed to prevent our guys being able to give this massive insult?

I look at the Iraqi's just two days ago claiming that no Allied Forces have entered Iraq, Now they are claiming they are defending cities only 150 miles from Baghdad. No matter how the leftist handwringers spin it, we are kicking the sh*t out of them.

I prefer Bacardi and Caffine-free Diet Coke myself. Virtually zero carb. Or maybe a Gin and Diet-tonic.

Thousands of vehicles, hundreds of miles...

From the car statistics from Ironclad in my post above, you can see that not only are our people great soldiers, but they're safer drivers than American civilians!

"The longer I watch the news the less I'm able to take the idiot reporters. I am constantly annoyed by everything they say. With the exception of the embedded reporters, I have nothing bu the utmost respect for them thus far. Even Geraldo."

Put your seat belt on, the next spin the press is going to throw out, is that Clinton defeated the Serbs, saved all those people in Kosovo and never lost a man!!

She's nice, but she just doesn't have that pinache, that slight oval of the belly, the diagional lines above her legs, her lack of underpants...

I want Tikrit bombed flat and left to the tender mercies of the Kurds.

The creeps in jeeps may not be getting orders from boy Hussein. I think the "Vice-President" is the one setting them loose.

The regime are run by second-tier Baathists who continue the fiction of a living Saddam to maintain control.

Which may explain a lot as to the truly bizarre military response.

From another thread:

10,000 vehicles went through the wire with the 3rd ID alone.
Todate we've lost less than a dozen to hostile fire (0.1%).

Our military planners are no dummies. The B-52s are running non-stop now. From what I've heard, none of them have been going to Baghdad. Baghdad has been all cruise missiles, B-2s, and F-117s. So those B-52 are dropping a huge amount of lovin' on something. I think it's the Special Republican Guard. There may be nothing left of these guys when we get there.

MSNBC reports that the main hinderance so far has been a lack of fuel. We've been moving so fast that supply lines haven't had a chance to catch up. Dangerous to allow tank fuel reserves to get below 50% in case of a firefight where they need to move fast and often.

I wonder if all the news folks concentrated on BAG and didn't think to have cameras in the other cities where we are doing some major pounding

The BUFFs are loaded with cruise missiles, so they may be standing off Baghdad and firing them into the city.

I can't tecall where but it was reported on some thread that the female not only had her shoes off but her feet were bandaged, anyone able to confirm this?

Second point as for those bodies shown, apparently there were 4 more found at the scene of the ambush along with some wounded so more facts and possible eyewitnesses maybe forthcoming at the end of this war...
