Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

well, they never seem to count in the 101st Airborne, which is like the third wave and ultimate mop up. They'll be coming through to cover the southern flank.

just heard that we have about 100,00 troops 50 miles outside B-dad I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the true number was closer to half of that.
To: killjoy
Yeah the its range was only 1000 meters... the same as the firball

Belly Girl will become a legend! My dad was always buying me coloring books of the great pin up girls of World War II.

At West Point? It must be to throw the Bomb during the Army-Navy game.

MOAB is what, 10-tons (0.01 kilitons)? Even a Pakistani nuke can manage 2 kilitons yieldI was a 463x0 for six years in the Air Force. Trust me when I say that an MOAB does not come close to any tactical nuke.

a division is NOT 100,000 men, perhaps 10,000

Oddly enough I'm currently listening to The Firm's Radioactive on Music Choice's "Power Rock" channel...

I've always been fascinated in how prisoners and POWs coped with their captivity. The human will to survive can be truely amazing. That and I wanted to be prepared if I was ever captured.
Books like "5 Years To Freedom", "When Hell Was In Session" and "Colditz" where some of the better reads.
To: Starrgaizr
probably debunked on the other thread. Scuds are 11+ meters. 23 feet is 7m. Whatever their length, no chemical plant is complete without missiles on site, right?
(/s)
Oh, as I am about to hit "send" MSNBC is reporting the chemical plant still being investigated, confirming it has not been ruled out. (Duh, if it's the same place with handy-dandy missiles stored at it.)

My Sky News link was all distorted, so I closed it and re-opened on broadband...got in on the first try.
I guess the whole world had just given up on them!

For comparison, the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of 14,500 tons of TNT and weighed only 10,000 pounds (4,500 kg) -- half the weight of the MOAB. See How Nuclear Bombs Work for details.
My Uncle Max was a pilot during World War ll in the Pacific Theater and I have seen some of his letters home. He wrote that Nagasaki looked like a "big, black, flat piece of slate". I dream of Saddam's own abode, where ever it is, (hell or Baghdad) looking like that.

two different places ... the missiles were found outside of Basra -- the Chemical Plant MSNBC is referring to is outside An Najaf.

I was wondering how can it take us a day or two to test stuff to find out if it is a chem weapons plant and Blix takes months to get samples checked? Are we checking other things or what?

You're very welcome. Left-wing activists have lists...and they use them. You'll likely get angry mail from Sanfran Gate and Village Voice. After busy mass-e-mailing days, I open e-mail with one eye closed. (^;

The report (MSNBC) didn't say division. They said 100,000 Troops to the same amount of Iraqi Troops, including the Medina Unit.

Trust me when I say that an MOAB does not come close to any tactical nuke. I don't know. There has never been a side-by-side comparison. Call it a taste test for the RG. Tastes great, less filling, boom, blam.
