Kurdish Official: U.S. to Open Northern Front in Iraq

ARBIL, Iraq, March 22 -- A senior Kurdish official said today that U.S. troops are scheduled to begin arriving in force in northern Iraq within a few days to open a new front in Iraq after a long delay caused by Turkey's refusal to allow its territory as a staging area.
The soldiers could land at four airfields inside the Kurdish-held areas of northern Iraq, an autonomous zone that has been free of central government control for a dozen years. It was unclear how many troops will arrive and with what equipment, the Kurdish official said.
