why do we even allow those media mongers to be out there with our troops. Yeah, I watch them but how good can that be for our military.

no, from where he was reporting, it's very plausible that he gave out their position within a mile or so.

Al-Jazeera has a crew in the press pool on one of the U.S. aircraft carriers.

Is this jackass actually with the troops or did he just state where he thought they were? What the heck would a BBC correspondent be doing embedded with US Special Forces units anyway? And if he reveals US military secrets, why don't the Special Forces guys just shoot the son of a bitch right there and then?

he was NEAR them, not travelling with them. i don't want to go into any more details, though i'm sure saddam watched the report. (the bbc has said several times that he's an avid watcher!)

Rumsfeld will be thrilled to hear this I'll wager. Wouldn't want to be in the room at the time.

Actually that doesnt really bother me.
At a minimum, they are very carefully monitoring every method of communication he has.
Even better, they might be using him as a means of spreading disinformation.

If the military allows the media to travel with them, it is easier to influence the types of reports they give and the manner in which they are presented. Also, when granted access, the media is more likely to abide by the needs of the military to not disclose certain sensitive information. Of course, if this report is true, then this guy screwed up. If the military does not allow such relationships with the media, then they will contend with rogue reporters sneaking around and reporting anything that they can find out, which would tend to be more often harmful than not.
