One retired chemical engineer working as a taxi driver told a fare that he had listened to Mr. Bush. "People are waiting for America," he said, taking both hands off the wheel to simulate applause.

Most of the maps of Kuwait/Iraq are either (a) huge or (b) primitive.
I'd love to see one that is actually useful.

Beyond President Saddam's family circle, the key figures can be counted on one hand: deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz, vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadan, Saddam's private secretary, Abed Hamid Mahmoud, and Izzat Ibrahim, who is deputy chairman of the revolutionary command council.
Tariq Mikhail Aziz
Deputy prime minister and foreign policy adviser. Born in 1936, former teacher and journalist and only Christian in leadership. No power base and no threat to president.

A Republican consultant on Fox and Friends told them this morning in the 6:00 a.m. EST hour that Daschle had become the Hanoi Jane of his party and thought this would wreck his career. Good news to start the morning with.

Muchas Gracias. It's appreciated.

Those pre-surrenders must sound like a good plan to a majority of Iraqi troops.

Yes, I heard that. Good news, indeed. I see the Republicans are not letting him off the hook, and the defense from the Rats has been pretty weak.

You got the request for an update (see #120; Reuters finally put a story on the web), or should I request it?

I got the request, it's fine with me either way. Obviously this has become a 'live thread' of sorts, so maybe this should be added to the title too.

TROOPS ON THE MOVE
US troops have entered the demilitarised zone on the Iraqi border with Kuwait, according to reports.
Kuwaiti security sources said US-led forces had moved into the demilitarised zone (DMZ) in preparation for an imminent attack on Iraq.
Sky News reporter Ross Appleyard, based on the border, said the troops could encounter trenches filled with burning oil - if and when they attack.
And he believes the first priority for the soldiers will be to secure the southern oil fields in Iraq before pushing onto the first major city, Basra - about 20 minutes from the border.
This comes as planes in the Gulf prepare for war. One RAF Tornado has been armed with what is believed to be a cruise missile.
Sky News defence expert Francis Tusa said the weapon, slung below the belly of the plane, was a Stormshadow - an air-launched cruise missile.
And America has confirmed that warplanes from the USS Abraham Lincoln bombed Iraqi positions earlier after coalition aircraft patrolling a no-fly zone were fired on by Iraqi forces.
"There were yesterday four firings against our aircraft flying in the southern no-fly zone," Rear Admiral John Kelly said.
He said US forces had responded by bombing "a series of targets" he described as "command and control" positions in the western part of the no-fly zone.
US and British warplanes have been patrolling the no-fly zone for more than a decade under the terms of Operation Southern Watch, set up after the 1991 Gulf War.
