"The mayor pushed for a decision on the resolution last night, but the council blocked that move with a 5-3 vote. The mayor says he will probably call for a vote on the paper at the council's April 14 meeting, though he said it could be moot by then depending on the status of the war. Councilman Bill Johnson, who served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, voted against an expedited vote. "We are at war," said Johnson. "It is unrealistic to even consider pulling out our troops at this juncture when we have not achieved our objective." Johnson voted along with council members Joseph E. Brooks, J.M. "Jackie" Jackson, G. Manoli Loupassi and William J. Pantele.
