Hubby told me the other day that SADDAM actually has (had?) holdings in Premiere magazine, which is listed in your post as French-owned. He's asleep so I can't find the source... anyone?

Ollie mentioned yesterday and today that he was upset about reports in the media about the military's lack of preparedness to deal with chemical and biological weapons. He was pretty hot about this subject. Does anyone think he was referring to Col. Hackworth?

I think Ollie was referring to Hack and others who have questioned the effectiveness of our NBC gear. I can understand why Ollie would be upset, he probably thinks Hack is creating anxiety at a time when it is very important to keep morale as high as possible. Hack likes being military gadfly and often times his criticisms lack substance, but he is correct in suggesting that our NBC may not be totally effective, especially if our troops are forced to wear the gear for long periods. Ollie is correct in stating that our NBC gear is of high quality, but the question is is it good enough? Even if our gear is totally effective against whatever Iraq uses there is the question of how it will degrade our troops ability to fight. If the tempertures in Iraq are 70 degrees plus some of our troops could be rendered combat ineffective due to heat exhaustion. Hopefully, the speed and mobility of our troops will enable them to avoid most chemical attacks. However, if the Iraqi's use chem/bio our response should be as devastating as possible, I'm talkin' MOAB's here.
