The Quran is what one takes from it. The Bible has some nasty quotes as well.

I understand your point, but I'd counter it with this:

I can't speak for any denomination besides Catholicism, but we view the Old Testament (very simply put) as more a history, than a guide for conducting one's self.   The Gospels are a code of conduct, and having been through Catechism, reading the Bible cover to cover, and hundreds of homilies, I've never heard The Father say I was supposed to kill anyone (or even that it was at my discretion).

That being said,  I completely agree with your point on the islamists letting the imam fill their heads with ideas that may have been handy back in the 14th Century or earlier.

Have you talked to any fundamentalist Christians lately? I am Catholic too, but some of the more militant Christian groups think that every word in the Bible is EXACT. The difference is that, even in the most Bible thumping Christian group, everyone CAN read and therefore can see for themselves what the Good Book says.

The Old Testament does not condone or encourage persecuting people who are not Jews. It sets aside the Holy Land for the Jews and warns Jews not to adopt the practises of pagans living around them. Although it appears to approve killing non-Jews who were pagans, that was limited in time and place to the conquest of the Holy Land.

The Old Testament also enjoins Jews not to persecute or oppress the stranger among them because they were once strangers in the land of Egypt.

On the contrary, the Quran and Mohammad, unlike either the Old or New Testament, enjoins Muslims to oppress unbelievers EVERYWHERE, to force the non-believer to convert to Islam, to kill anyone who attempts to convert a Muslim to another faith, and to kill any Muslim who so converts. Islam divides the entire world into the "House of Peace", those areas already Islamicized where the unbelievers are relegated to a subordinate status and suitably oppressed, and the "House of War", the rest of the world yet to be overrun by Muslims.
