I guess I hadn't seen that before - grabing a marker and writing little notes on it like it was a birthday card seems strange to me.

I'm uncomfortable with that too. Defacing the flag is disrespectful of it. I'm sure it was done with good intentions, but it is still defacing.

I will watch to see if anyone else has simular feelings and can post more authoratively to the issue.

But it struck me when I saw it too.

I, too, was very upset at seeing the picture of people writing on the flag. Regulations regarding the flag are very clear: how to display it, how to honor it, how to keep it, how to destroy it, and what you are NOT allowed to do with it. I feel very bad about this situation and sentiments of "don't rain on our parade" or "the rules are too strict" are also very troubling to me.
