Turkish brothel welcomes troops

AFP ANKARA, March 15

Enlarge As Turkey considers whether to allow the United States to use its territory for a possible war against Iraq, a brothel owner has hatched plans to offer US soldiers a pleasurable welcome, the Anatolia news agency reported Friday.

Ali Rumuz, who already runs a brothel in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, has applied to authorities to open a second establishment in the neighbouring city of Mardin to serve US soldiers, the agency said.

According to press reports, US forces are planning to set up logistical support bases in Mardin if Turkey allows them to deploy there, ahead of a possible invasion of northern Iraq.

In his petition, Rumuz said he could set up a "20-room modern brothel" in two months.

Brothels are legal in Turkey and local officials were evaluating Rumuz's application.

Earlier this month, the Turkish parliament spurned a US request for the deployment of 62,000 US soldiers here, but the governing party has hinted that it might call a second vote on the issue.

Well, Camel Ataturk was very big on secularism and humiliating religious people, so it shouldn't be surprising that they would be legal.

They most likely will never get near a Turkish brothel. There is a "General Order" in effect that makes it a punishable offense. Not that someone may not try...but most will get no further than the fenceline of the compound.

It would have helped in Vietnam greatly, with all those dust children thoughtlessly left behind there. Oh the folly of man in not obeying the laws of God, but acting like animals.

Thanks for the information. Besides don't you have to be on "leave" or something to even do that? I think today's military is a lot different than the military of yesterday. One of my relatives was raped by American soldiers during World War Two when they had an air base in South America, she had two children from that. Somehow I don't see a lot of that happening now during war. The brothel thing is a different story. I do think that a lot of men would visit a brothel and get consentual sex. After all, they are far away from home and having sex with someone is better than masturbation.

If I were a man in the military, I would not want to risk my life in a brothel.

Isn't that special. Most of the new variants of these old diseases are *not* cured by the proverbial "shot of penicillin."

Well they certainly did while I was in the Navy during WWII.
They showed films of what might happen if you contacted STD. It was frightening. There was no penicilin in those days. Now don't get me wrong, cause even though we were made aware of the possibility of STD, many still took the chance. Also we were issued condums and pro-kits when we left the ship. So the information was put out and protection of a kind offered.

Well, moral and ethical issues aside (I'd like to think we have pretty moral and ethical soldiers in the army today), it really becomes a disease prevention issue for commanders. That said, I suspect the folks we do have in Turkey are a bit busy right about now...
When the US Army first moved into Hungary back in 95, there were all sorts of "businesses" of this type that sprung up around the airbase (I guess they had seen movies about what American soldiers were like..they certainly hadn't met any at that point). Of course, there wasn't any business for them...the soldiers were busy, and were restricted to the base. Now, that doesn't mean there wasn't some of that sort of thing going on...but not in the brothels of Kaposvar. Soon, they found somewhere else to set up shop...

They probably give the girls American names like Jennifer, Melinda and Taffy. Then, when a "customer" comes in, they ask him: "Would you like some Turkish Jennifer? Turkish Melinda?? Turkish Taffy???"
