I just e-mailed your interesting thought and a link to this thread to a fairly senior executive at AutoZone's corporate headquarters here in Memphis. We'll see if they agree, or if anything comes of it.

Uh, guys....I'm not going to pretend that the firing of a naval reservist from his Pep Boys job is going to make me boycott Pep Boys. I CAN'T boycott you ; your nearest store is a five hour drive away! But I wanted to say three things :
1. The internet has created a huge online conservative/patriot family of sites. And they're ALL talking about the firing. Free Republic alone has 100,000+ registered posters, and who knows how many lurkers.
2.The backlash against Pep Boys-in areas where there actually ARE Pep Boys-is apt to be huge.
3. This makes your company look like it's run by incredibly stupid and ignorant people. Guys, my DOGS know you CAN'T fire people who are reservists , if they miss work because of that status. It's a federal law. How in the name of God does a modern compnay wind up with managers so dirt-ignorant that they think they can fire someone for a reason like that? And the pathetic attempts of the AZ store people to pretend that wasn't the reason...Give me a break. Pep Boys would be wise just to cut Mr. Balodis a check with a lot of zeroes in it right now, because if this case goes to trial, even Lionel Hutz will eat you alive!
