I did NOT get the impression that this was some permanent group.

That's because it isn't -- yet. The UN hasn't completely discredited itself -- yet (that happens tomorrow). And the UN's replacement will be the national subject of conversation for the next six months, not any ongoing battle for Baghdad, which is not remotely in prospect.

Vice President Cheney was the sole guest on Meet The Press this morning. He very articuately, imo, outlined the difference in the U.N. policies and international thinking of the 20th century, that containment works, to the growing necessity of a NEW way of thinking for the 21st century.

He said that because we have no 'borders' within which to contain an aberrant threat, the U.N. and international thinking MUST change in order to be considered relevant.

Since I envision the U.N. NOT changing course, they will cease to be other than a 'humanitarian' support agency, imo.
