One fallout of Turkey's refusal is that some of the army's best equipment, including its newest M1A2 tanks, are stuck on ships floating off the Turkish coast and likely will not be available in a war.

Yep, this is the part which jumped out at me. I actually predicted such a potential development a couple weeks ago, for which I was harangued with about a dozen derisive responses...

I understand the importance of armor. However, I believe situations such as this indicate the need for viable alternatives to traditional armored assets. Alas this may represent the end of the line for the M1A2. More flexible platforms are needed for situations like this one. Platforms that can be more easily prepositioned. Just a thought.

Well, if we aren't going to use them on Iraq we could make a port call at Spain on the way home and use them on France.

Is it too much to hope that this will be the end of the "not ready for duty" Osprey? Gotta be a reason we're not sending any... (Billions wasted on trash)

yes you were saying that and I think I was one of your critics...

I wanted "to believe". I believed what I heard.
I was also wrong if this turns out to be the case... and I believe it is.

news that france has been playing us with turkey to delay our deployments and cutoff our equipment... dangling "for membership" carrots in the EU and whatever else... to turkey, perhaps plus a piece of the kurds... rather sickened me.

Perhaps we can borrow back the ones we sent to Egypt? Surely they had no plans for them in this war, right?
