MSNBC
March 12 CBS was bombarded with complaints last week after Star Search judge Naomi Judd referred to a black dancer as a monkey. I was stunned, a source tells The Scoop. She said it in a way that was meant to be funny and playful, but it was astonishingly racist and insensitive.
I HEARD THAT the [CBS] switchboard really lit up, the source said.
Only moments later, after a trio of tap dancers, the un-PC singer announced that she loves it when white people tap dance. Totally bizarre comment, but yet another reason to make fun of Naomi, one poster on Television Without Pity.com commented. Youve got to admit, she unintentionally provides comic relief to the show. Every time its her turn to vote, I think, What stupid thing is she going to say now?
Its a real problem, said another Star Search fan who says that the country and western crooner once referred to a dance by three black women as tribal.
Spokesmen for Judd and CBS didnt return calls for comment.

Right you are Paul. The hypocrisy is astounding....and offensive, but then I am the wrong color to be allowed to be offended or at least to expect anybody to care.

Star Search is one of the few shows I watch every time (or tape it when I have to).
On the show she said the women's dance routine had hints of "tribal" influence (along with other dance influences)...from my point of view there was indeed some movements that could be called tribal...like seen on the Discovery Channel programs of African tribes.
Because it is a LIVE show things are said that would have been cut out or bleeped on any taped program.
Some things were just stupid, others were racy, some could be taken the wrong way ...viewers with their minds in the gutter ect.
So if Naomi is racist why does she often give high scores to black performers?

Meanwhile, the International Society of Monkeys has filed a "verbal racial hate crime" complaint against Naomi Judd for comparing them to badly dancing humans.

I still laugh, when I think of the dust an inebriated John Rocker, kicked up. He was at a formal party with Supreme Court Justice , Sandra Day O'Conner, as one of the guests. He commented to her over dinner,"come on, lighten up Sandy baby", then promptly passed out.

Ever notice how hard it is to straighten up those first few minutes after getting out of bed? Reversion to type perhaps?

"Judd apologized for any misunderstanding."
How can you apologize for someone elses misunderstanding?

She meant that most of the singers had performed songs most viewers could actually understand... pop songs, broadway tunes, ballads, 60's songs, blues, jazz, soul, country...ect.
The woman was the first to rap and thus was "diverse" from all the other performers.
BTW, I gave that woman a 2 when I voted...can't stand that type of rap.

"How can you apologize for someone elses misunderstanding?" You can say "I'm sorry you misunderstood" which puts the burden of responsibility on the listener and NOT the speaker.

You know, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the "offended" callers were some of the same ones who call the president "Chimpy". Not that it makes any difference, just kinda highlights the hypocrisy.

His Ethnicity or race isn't really important-the fact that he can call everyone and anyone a monkey with no bad publicity, while Naomi Judd gets tromped for just one similar innocent remark, is uuacceptable in my opinion.
