a little off topic but anyone remember the thread about The Outback going to Afghanistan with 10000 pounds of beef and other assorted goodies and cooked it all up for the troops?

Coming this year are Hearty Clam Chowder, Pot Roast with Vegetables and a Poppy Seed Pound Cake. "We're working on a salmon," he tells the soldiers. "Yeech," says Lt. Eddie Commender.
"No, I tried it. It's good," Mr. Acheson says.
Ping!

The worst I had was the pre-digested crap called "B-Rations."

Now if they were to bring back Lima Beans and MOFO's then they would have a culinary delight to die for.

LOL - the longest I ate these was for one solid week. We thought MRE meant: Meals Rejected by Ethiopians.
Cheers, CC :)

A-yep, the pound cake is A-numbah-1.
And yes, the mint chocolate cake is indeed weird. Tasty, but weird.

The worst ones were the Omlet and anything with Tuna in it.
You guys should see the food that the contractor Brown and Root serves in Bosnia-----you would not believe it--awesome.

Does this mean they've gotten rid of the ham and turkey loaf (aka Alpo in a bag)?

Russian General to an American General:
Our Army is the best fed army in the world! We give each soldier 1500 alories per day.
American General:
I hate to contradict you, but we give each of our soldiers at least 3000 calories a day.
The Russian General paused a moment then laughed out loud.
That's ridiculous my American freind, no one can eat an entire sack of potatoes in one day!

Field expedient pizza:
Reconstitute the pork or beef patty
Reconstitute the ketchup
Spread the ketchup on the cracker
Put the pork or beef patty on the cracker
Squeeze the cheese spread on top of the meat patty
Desert:
Take water, sugar, coffee creamer, and some cracker and mix with the dried fruit. Fruit pie.

The last field ready meal I ever ate contained a package of Marlboros! Does that mean I am OLD???
The tasteless giant wafer was the best thing about C-rats, oh, the toilet paper was a welcome site too. :-)

I remember reading from Desert Storm accounts that the French version of combat rations were pretty good (I was deployed to the U.K. for GWI, with no French troop exposure).
Maybe its to gain access to the French rations that is behind the U.S. seeking French participationin GWII?
Can any Freepers confirm or deny that the French version of MRE's were good?

A widely shared notion: They're deliberately made to make those who eat them constipated, sparing soldiers one worry in the field. BS ..... the cheese and peanut butter in those MRE will clog you up faster than cramming a case of toilet paper into a commode.

I ate C-Rats in boot camp. Not great, but edible. Kind of heavy to carry a lot of them.
I was around for the first MREs. They were pretty bad. No, that's not quite right. They were (censored).
I used to go into the field with beef jerky and lots of Wheat Thins in preference to the brown bag.
I'm happy to hear they have fixed the MRE and made it edible.
