Dixie Chicks Remark Irks Country Fans

The Dixie Chicks are drawing harsh words from country music fans for remarks singer Natalie Maines made about President George W. Bush during a recent performance in London.
Maines told the audience earlier this week, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Angry phone calls flooded Nashville radio station WKDF-FM on Thursday, some calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.
The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."
In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide."

The best "bris" bit ever was the old Saturday Night Live takeoff on the Cadillac commercial, where he did the bris in the back seat to demonstrate how smooth the ride was.

They use their star status to get their anti-Bush message out. They did say they were ashamed to be from the same state of Texas as the President.
They were not hired to talk politics; but, as employees, to only promote their music. When they take the "work time" to voice their opinions on Iraq at the expense of the corporations (who back them financially),their own employees including members of their own band..it is irresponsible and very selfish.

Laura Inghram made the point on Imus this morning that Maines waited to say this until after their U.S. concert tour was sold out. Someone should file a class action suit in each venue they are playing, so that fans who were defrauded into buying tickets from these idiots can get their money back. The group has been misrepresented as being patriotic Americans when in fact they hold anti-American views that are at odds with their public. Offer to settle if the promoter will replace the group with a patriotic singer, like Darryl Worley or Charlie Daniels.

Lizianne is superior, but I'll bet Lipton is REALLY pissed. This was somewhat out of character for Dixie Twits, wasn't it?

Heard Liberal Idiot Bill Press this morning on WMAL. He remarked how "proud" he is of the Dixie Chicks, and how they are his new favorite group. It must really pain liberals to have to defend a group with "Dixie" and "Chicks" in their name.

So their attempt to quell the criticism was just as insulting and short-sighted as the original comment. A shorter way to say that is "Clintonian".

Soldiers are trained to KILL! That's their job! And to do it as efficiently as possible.

I am willing to bet that Maines did not speak for the other two.The same thought occurred to me. And if we're right, I hope the other two give Maines holy hell. After all, they're going to suffer for this, too. I also hope they dissociate themselves from her comments, and apologize for her boorishness.
