Even her choice of jogging as a pasttime shortly before her disappearance may be indicative of her personal surge towards freedom... Run, rabbit, run!

Slym, the fact that you may have spent time in a mental institution doesn't make you a psychologist.

And Elizabeth's hobby of 'jogging' would have given her ample time/opportunity for contact with the Mitchells.

Great points:
Physical muscles are built by opposition and resistance. So are psychological muscles. Up until now it appears she had little opportunity to toughen up.

We would get a good look deeper into the sick one's head.

And we know who would end up getting banned.

Thankfully niether the Smart family, the roving daughter, nor the pied piper and his wife were run over and burnt to crisps by Riechlord Janet Von Reno, Generalissimo Wesley Clark and the goonish BATF and FBI-HRT. Although in the Clinto Era many in media and the upper reaches of Government and Law would have APPLAUDED that act as a proper and just reckoning.

And the Smart's nieghbors would have been thrown in jail for complaining about the ruckus.

One more time...There were TWO of them. If Mitchell wasn't there, Wanda was. Why do people want to believe that a sweet, 15 year old girl would willingly choose a life like that?

I'll bet you $100 right now that everything is the way it appears...she was kidnapped, brainwashed, watched 24/7...simple as that. Are you up for that?

"A 14 ueaqr-old child can run away but if an adult helps them..

I don't know if that is kidnapping or not, but as I have stated on other threads it may be and certainly should be crime to knowingly harbor a runaway minor without the knowledge and consent of the parents. As to why she would need "Emmnauel's" help ( I have never heard that he was a wino), I am still up in the air as to whether I think that he was in the house or not. But she certainly needed his help after she left the house.

I don't think the younger sister could have made that up and stuck to it.

That Mr. Smart 'knows how the homeless man feels..?'-doesn't that seem like strange language to you?

Real weird ---- for one "homeless" is misleading, it implies the man wanted a home but was too unfortunate somehow. Why not just call him a pedophilic rapist-kidnapper?

We've never heard from MK, have we? And the family placed extreme limits on when and how the police could interview her, as well as stopping the first interview with Jeannie Boylan which Marc Klass had set up. We are told that MK is intelligent and mature well beyond her years. I think that she told her parents what Elizabeth had told her to tell them and then told the police what her parents told her to tell them.

If this is true, then she didn't really make anything up herself, and she didn't have to stick to it for very long because her parents keep her from being freely questioned. MK was able to justify telling these stories because she thought that it would help Elizabeth (first, to escape, then, once she became concerned about her sister's safety, to try to help find her).

I wouldn't be surprised if MK told her parents LONG ago that Elizabeth with Emmanuel. All those statements from Ed, Lois, and Tom are obviously directed toward an known person. The family's confidence that Elizabeth would eventually return was partly based on religious faith but more based on their knowledge that the awful statistics about abduction didn't apply to them because they knew that Elizabeth had not really been abducted.

Or that's my take on things.

Er... she IS present in photos taken just a few hours after Elizabeth was found. The first when she and Elizabeth were being led out of the SLC police station to a van (and obviously she had been with Elizabeth inside the station before that. She is also in many of the family photos taken the next day. Remember that when Ed first got the call to come to the Sandy police station, police hadn't told him they had Elizabeth, just that they had something he needed to see and should come right away. I gather that the mother got a call from him within a couple of minutes of when he saw Elizabeth, and she must have joined them within an hour or two -- long enough to leave time for Eliz. and her father to be transported to the SLC station, and for a friend or neighbor to be grabbed to watch the youngest child (probably not in school full time yet) and make a couple of calls to arrange for the other kids, who'd be coming home to a missing mother and a lot of confusion.

I (and probably half the country) will take that wager, assuming by "kidnapping" we can agree we mean that he used force to remove her from the bedroom. Don't know how it'll be proven, but I suspect, that now that the pressure is on, the little sister will crack under intense questioning by LE, and say that Elizabeth told her to spin that yarn about an intruder brandishing a weapon.

Given the look in that creep's eyes, I'd think he'd have been one of the more memorable characters among the apparent hordes who'd worked at the house. We also haven't heard anything about why he only worked there once, for half a day. Wouldn't surprise me if the parents decided that, even if he seemed "gentle", he was too weird to have around the house any more. Ed mentioned "Emmanuel" had talked about his religious beliefs while they worked on the roof, and given that the children were being raised as conventional Mormons, perhaps they just thought it was better not to have this guy talking about his odd religious beliefs around the children.

Perhaps Elizabeth said she'd run away because the creep who abducted her told her she had run away, i.e., by not fighting and refusing to go. Or maybe the abductor had been telling her everyone thought she was a runaway.

I hope it's not taboo to discuss the lifestyle of the cult prior to the bombing/burning/killing/murders. I got that feeling pretty quick.
