CDC director, doctor who led worldwide eradication effort, receive smallpox vaccine

ATLANTA, Mar. 13 - The director of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the doctor who led the worldwide effort to eradicate smallpox were vaccinated Wednesday.

CDC officials said Julie Gerberding wanted to be vaccinated in case she was needed in an emergency.
