>>I don't understand why there is no sympathy for this man on this thread

There is some, its the the juveniles on the thread the somehow make themselves feel better by spitting on those down on their luck...sounds to me like the guy worked his whole life, and now finds him out of work probably for the first time in 45-50 years and doesn't have enough put aside to retire at 62...what a slouch...a true parasite on society...

Most of the smart-ass attitudes on this thread are just one layoff notice from a complete attitude adjustment.

one layoff notice from a complete attitude adjustment

Even 6 months worth of salary savings can run out. Making car payments and paying rent and maybe other financial commitments is a style of living wealthy while being merely affluent. Affluent means there is income to cover expenditure at a high rate. Doesn't mean there is any wealth at all. When the income stops, the affluence stops. It's cardboard bungalow village next. Maybe a room in an old Buick if you're lucky.

Boo Freakin Hoo, let me get out my viola. There are tons of jobs, TONS, in the insurance industry, it is one of the few industries still hiring.

This doofus wants another coffee drinking, 35 hour per week memo producing job. He is a dinosaur who needs to learn to walk again.

Thanks for your comments and, yes, I wonder what these posters here with their smart-ass comments will do after that layoff notice comes. It's not exactly easy out there these days...especially if you are an older, white American male.

It's always great to kick a man when he's down.

Some of us have dreams of grandeur to retire at 55 or 62. The only problem is things happen along the way, mainly life, kids, a bad market and before you know it the plan has vanquished. The land of critcal mass is not achieved and a job loss turns your world on it's ear at the ripe age of 62.

Then comes the second guessing, not just yourself but others. Shouldn't have bought the new car in 1983, should have skipped those vacations with the kids in the 80's. Was prime rib every Christmas wise?

He seems to be trying, I wish him good luck.

I don't believe in spitting on the guy but I think we can all afford to take a lesson from this. Fact is, he did make some poor decisions that have contributed to his situation. (There is more information in the WSJ article that bears this out.)

It is a liberal tendency to make excuses for people and say things like "You should walk a mile in his shoes before you judge..." Not that I'm accusing you of having liberal tendencies. But life can be very tough on those who do not learn from other's mistakes. There are far too many people in this country living on easy credit and beyond their means. There are many others out there in the situation this man is in (or will be soon). Yet, it need not be so. Hopefully many will learn from this man's plight and make the corrections in their lifestyle today so that they do not end up like this man tomorrow.

I was laid off January 3. I started work again on January 21.

AMEN!!

Some of these people need one to make them appreciate what they have. The morons who pan this guy just don't realize that life can turn on a dime. Your character is determined then not by being a loudmouth now

I think a lot of these loudmouths would fail the test.

Geez anyone who could kick a sixty year old man who worked all his life and ends up out so they can replace him with a 25 year old making 2/3s of what he was paid is a complete cad.
