According to the UN Charter, no citizen of one of the permanent members of the Security Council can hold the position of Secretary General of the UN.

All depends on your definition of is.... We've heard that rules don't apply to Clinton.

The US would either have to pull out of the UN or clintoon would have to renounce his US citizenship.

If he renounced his US citizenship, he could be banned from US territory.

I think this is a great idea. I hope he does it.

It'd be nice to have both targets together, in the same boat.

from the U.N. Secretary General's history home page:

Under the Charter, the Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council...

Sounds like the USA has a veto over the appointment of theBentOne as SG.

Who says elections don't matter? Vote Republican.

We don't even have to veto this one...there is a rule in the charter that no one from the big 5 can be the UN chief. Its generally always a 3rd world guy who was a college president. I can't see what Bill intends to do as UN chief...there is no function to it...but you would get alot of interns...perhaps thats the main focus here.

If you check out the fine print on the UN Charter you should see that no citizen of a permanent member of the Security Council can be a Secretary General. The US would either have to pull out of the UN or clintoon would have to renounce his US citizenship.

You happen to have a specific citation to that "fine print" in the U.N. Charter? 'cause I've never been able to find it, and I've looked.

Hmm... not so fast.. I've had a pretty careful read of that charter as well, and I'll be darned if I can find any such preclusion.

UN Charter Document

And I wouldn't put this past Clinton, the little publicity-mad b*st*rd. Yeah, it's just like him to go for this tasty tid-bit and there's little anyone in the US can do to stop him. I can neither explain nor understand the charisma of this oaf but somehow he's got it and knows how to use it - wherever he goes a huge cadre of silly idiots mindlessly follows behind him like a wake behind an ocean liner.

Yes, WJC will very likely get this appointment because there's nothing standing in his way. Don't suppose Bill's got a chance of having a suddenly bad heart or other critical illness anytime soon? I think God's intervention is the only way to stop him at this point (although HE has not been terribly helpful so far, so I've little hope there, either.)

The world really is going in the toilet. Sigh.

"Bill the Beast"? Does anyone really know who his father really was?

Obviously, the Antichrist.

I thought that was the case, too, but I cannot find it written anywhere. (not that a plain rule would prevent the Bent One from ignoring it.)

Check out the UN Charter online--superfically, nothing seems to prohibit Clinton's appointment to Secretary General. The biggest drawback is the job actually involves work (see: http://www.un.org/News/ossg/sg/pages/sg_office.html)

Tells you how much I know about the UN Charter. Then again, judging by their performance, the only thing the UN Charter seems to be good for is when you go fishing and run out of "hygiene paper".

That takes money — the kind of money only the long-suffering U.S. taxpayer can give, plus a cash-grabbing fund-raiser.

The Congress would be likely to totally defund the UN if Clinton were the General Secretary.
