That brings back long-ago memories of Texas History. Just the other day I was thinking about the Alamo and trying to remember the story.

As I've been reading this thread I've been tempted to mention to people to go drive to the out-skirts to see the missions. They are very interesting and do give a good feel of what life there must have been like then. I found it all spooky but interesting as a kid. It's been years since I've been there but I don't think they've changed much.
So I'm glad you mentioned the missions. Overall, San Antonio is a very interesting city and has a great zoo as well. It's a city with lots of character.

Or was it the Mexicans that were there first? Indians and Spaniards. Mexico wasn't even an independent country except for about 25 years and they chose a form of government which made it impossible for them to control their northern territories they got from Spain. The descendents of the Spanish seem glad enough to have become Americans ---you don't see those people trying to break away and become part of Mexico ---all that Aztlan stuff is promoted not by them but people with closer ties to Mexico.
