"I realize that not all schools are as bad as these examples. In fact, they're pretty good in my area."

"As long as everyone believes this lie, nothing will change."

This isn't a lie. You're willing to make the argument that every public school is bad? That's absurd. I( and I'm sure many other Freepers)spent my entire educational career in public schools other than a private university. Many of my classmates went to some of the top colleges in the country. It's demographics that make the difference. Yes, I grew up in an upper-class community that was probably 98% white. Our parents were concerned and engaged. I realize how lucky I am because of it. It's the poor areas with single-parent or no-parent homes where you see the horrible schools. You can't make a blanket statement that all public schools are bad.

I also attended public schools. But if you read my replies 9 and 11, I was speaking more to what the article was discussing which was not merely academic but the ultra-PC environment that permeates government schools. If the NEA would just allow teachers to teach and not indoctrinate children into their socialist agenda, the country would be immensely better off. With involved parents, any student can receive a quality education, be it public, private or home-school. But with the agenda being taught in govt. schools, our republic may not long survive.
