Two things: If you don't know how to take a computer apart, take it to someone who does.

If you do, pull the drive and hook it up on another computer

"If you do, pull the drive and hook it up on another computer"

I've used these solution to help two people I know to recover files they need after getting a virus. I have an old PC that I don't use for any other purpose. I remove their hard drive and install it into this PC and make it a slave. I boot from the master drive and use an external CD burner to extract and save their critical files.

After that I reformat their hard drive and restore their operating system, do a virus scan, reload application software and restore data.
