NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Military sources say as many as four North Korean MiGs intercepted a U.S. reconnaissance plane over international waters during the weekend, MSNBC reported Monday.
According to the sources, the MiGs came within 500 feet of the U.S. RC-135 plane but didn't act aggressively, MSNBC said.
The network said the incident - the first such intercept since 1969 - happened in international air space over the Korean peninsula.

Sometime the truth makes it out before it can be censored. It happened with early reports for Oklahoma City bombing, Flight 800, etc. Maybe the government thinks we aren't ready to know this happened; then again, maybe it didn't happen after all. Keep an open mind and keep your eyes open.

just my opinion, tomkat...I know folks in 1st CAV- I retired from there a couple of years ago- I think this one caught them by surprise...

More likely the Nimitz is just relieving the LexingtonNot likely at all. The Lexington, decommissioned in November of 1991, has been a floating museum in Corpus Christi since October of 1992.

Fox's reporting of a plane being shot down is perhaps the most blatant example of media incompetence since Hurst Papers reported the Maine was blown-up in Havana Harbor. If it had been Dan Rather or CNN airing a false report of an American plane being attacked the masses here at FR would be screaming "Treason" but when Fox News reports events that did not occur many Freepers are more than willing to sweep it under the rug and make a nice excuse.

Did FOX ever apologize and make public note of their error today?
If not, they have really lost respect in my mind. The mistake is bad enough; to just act as if nothing happened, hoping nobody noticed, is the depth of non-professionalism.

lets look deeper if they are itching for us to respond and attack them or bomb them and they keep threating nuclear response. Could something sinister be up. What if there are wmd aimed at us right now from somewhere else.
Have we for certain facts that there are not nuclear weapons in South America? Or Cuba or for that matter Mexico. Just thinking out loud. The whole world against us they attack with nukes and blame it on us the world leftist sheep for the cause go along with it. Have we checked South America or should I say all those below the border?

I say drop it. regarding where you think they might be located...
too many of my kids and nieces and nephews to get into actual locations of where the assets are. the yellow sea would not surprise me however.
I have NO idea where they all are. But I know the equipment they use in their work. If you got family in the service... so do you.
Things are going to heat up worldwide... this is indeed another WORLD WAR. This is not "just about Iraq" or "oil." Thank God ALL of our assets are NOT deployed away from our shores...
We need to keep our own eyes open for about a dozen submarines of various flags...
be well.

If they're the "conservative" news channel they're an embarassment to conservatism with their amateurish ways. nice "if" statement. i didn't consider them conservative. ...
yah, they're a touch right of the raving marxists on every other news channel...
conservative? i suggest you clean your 1911 while watching shephard read a gun story.
naw, the only reason some around here think fox is "conservative" is due to the
available alternatives.
i personally think they're fairly moderate, and maturing... i love fox & friends.
special report with brit is excellent.
lots of the rest sucks.

The fleet of 14 RIVET JOINT aircraft increased to 15 in late 1999 with the addition of a converted C-135B. The jet's conversion cost about $90 million. The Rivet Joint fleet is currently undergoing significant airframe, navigational and powerplant upgrades which include re-engining from the TF-33 to the CFM-56 engines used on the KC-135R and upgrade of the flight deck instrumentation and navigational systems to the AMP standard. The AMP standard includes conversion from analog readouts to a digital glass cockpit configuration.
The Air Force plans to spend at least $1.4 billion to keep the RC-135 Rivet Joint (RJ) fleet flying through 2018. The service also plans to modify a recently retired Air National Guard KC-135 tanker, turning it into the Air Forces 17th RJ signals-intelligence aircraft.
Basic roles include:
- providing indications about the location and intentions of enemyforces and warnings of threatening activity
- broadcasting a variety of direct voice communications. Of highest priority are combat advisory broadcasts and imminent threat warnings that can be sent direct to aircraft in danger
- operating both data and voice links to provide target info to US ground based air defenses

While I agree, here's the problem with that - N Korea is contained right now. Iraq, and the rest of the Muslim world, has been at war with the US for years culminating in September 11th. If we were to focus on NK first, they could instigate all kinds of small terror attacks while our focus was elsewhere. If we focus on Iraq and end the problem there, NK will still be contained. Then we can move on, single mindedly, and deal with that problem.
