Right on the money - the North didn't need African slaves any more because of the glut of Irish (economic slaves)that they considered more intelligent and productive and easier to control. They had no compassion for blacks - they wanted them all sent back to Africa to fend for themselves.

Most Northern states had abolished slavery quite some time before massive Irish immigration. Prior to the 1820s, most Irish immigrants were Scots-Irish Protestants, and nobody ever claimed they were easy to control!
