Operation phone home, sending goodies to the troops overseas!
To: dware
Have been doing this through a 501(c)(3) organization, so contributions are tax-deductible. Simpler to raise money and buy cards in bulk (Sam's has the best price the club has found and has been very supportive, including donating some cards), have contributors write a personal note on a small card to go in an envelope with each phone card. The club is sending boxes of cards to the CSM for distribution.

Sounds great and I see that we can buy international cards from Sam's or Mailbox.

Great idea, May I suggest yet another way to sypport the troops.
www.operationmilitarysupport.com
this is a web site for volunteering to write to one or more of the troops. There is also a link to see the results of these letters by reading the responses from the troops. I am also very impressed with the sponsors.
I wrote to a marine, hope he responds.

I'm in. I teach 7th graders. I'll see how many of the international phone cards I can get. I think my students would like the idea of sending cards to those serving overseas

Im a military Mom, I have an AT & T Military calling card for my boys. It is seperate from my phone service with only a 1.00 monthly service charge. You can set a monthly dollar limit on the calls and they usually offer a discounted rate from most over seas locations. Some countries the fees are about half the regular rate.
