Barrels and stuff are out though, and since it's a small boat, it's highly unstable.

Someone in some interview ages ago now, stated that nobody who knew the Bay would ever take a boat that small out into it.

Which makes the rumors about no salt water traces on this boat seem plausible.

The body would fit.. It's bigger than it looks. 14' total length. Barrels and stuff are out though, and since it's a small boat, it's highly unstable.

SP will probably claim that he had those 8 foot patio umbrellas in that boat, that's it.

More from NE-March 11:

Laci's Husband Tells Mistress: "MY WIFE IS DEAD" BY DAVID WRIGHT

1. Scott made a statement to his secret lover that his wife was dead. Tears pouring down his cheeks, made this chilling statement to Amber Frey-- less than a week BEFORE his wife vanished.

2. Scott was crying as he told Amber, "I lost my wife the first week in December last year." this according to Amber Frey's older sister, who asked the Enquirer to withhold her name. Amber's father Ron Frey confirmed this in an exclusive Enquirer interview.

3. Twice after the hunt for Laci started, Scott phoned the still unaware, Amber. "He was calling Amber up until December 28th, and acting like they were still boyfriend and girlfriend," according to Ron Frey. Amber didn't find out about Laci's disappearence until Dec. 29th, she had been to busy to watch the news.

4. Amber passed a polygraph test after telling cops the bizarre details of her affair with Scott and is now being guarded around the clock.

5. Amber met 31 year old Scott on a blind date on Nov.20th at the World Sports Cafe bar in Fresno. Scott and Amber were introduced by a girl who knew him from work, the girl thought that he was single, according to Ron Frey.

6.Amber's grandmother and father babysat her child while they went on dates. Dec.14th, they went to a Christmas party at the sports bar were they met, Scott was dressed formally, with a flower in his buttonhole, Amber in a red dress. "They had a professional studio picture taken in the studio". Scott told her he wanted their relationship to be "exclusive", according to Amber's sister.

&. Scott told Amber if they did marry he didn't want more children. He was charming and made her a caramel-apple at her apartment and then cleaned up the kitchen prefectly.

9. Scott came to her apartment in Dec. and was crying, disclosed her sister. He said he lied when he told Amber he was never married before- He told her he had lost his wife a year ago in December. Amber took that to mean he was a widower. Scott told her he felt bad about the lie and wanted to keep the relationship honest.

10. Scott told her he was spending the holidays in Maine and then had to go on business to Paris, and would not be home until Jan25th. When she asked for the address to send him a X-mas card he gave her a post office box number in Modesto. She was also hurt because Scott failed to give her a X-mas present.

11. Unnerved by his 'late wife story", Amber asked a friend- a private detective- to check out her boyfriend. On Dec. 29th the investigator swiftly derailed her dreams. He told her the story of Scott's missing wife Laci.

12. Amber has refused to take money for her story. Feb.10th was Laci's due date and also Amber's birthday. "Amber cried all that day," said her sister. "It was a cruel co-incidence- and she was devastated."

Credit for typing transcript goes to the poster Rickamorti of the Purgatory Forum.

The NE story says that Amber's sister, at times, found him extraordinarily charming. "One time he found out what her favorite apple was, and he made a carmel-covered apple at her apartment and served it to her.

I asked some "serious fishermen" and "experienced boatmen" in my family about transporting a weighted body or a stuffed barrell in a small boat. They said "yes" it could be done.

Then I asked about being able to lift something that heavy up and over the side of a small boat without tipping it over. "That could be a problem and would be difficult," they thought. "With some luck and the right conditions, he might have been able to pull it off," they agreed.

Then I asked about a small boat being able to tow something that heavy for some distance in a body of water. Their answer was a big "Yes", and would be the preferred method of disposing of a weighted body or heavy barrell.

...National Enquirer....

So how much of this do we believe?

They said they declared bankrupcy, that was false.

They said no sea water in the boat, that was false.

Enquirer has broken some interesting true stuff in the past, but they are re-earning their older reputation as a phony rag.

The caramel apple ... he only knew Amber for a month, no? The whole gist of the factoids in this article paints an implausible picture of Scott to me. Maybe they get her story in return for printing it from her perspective or something.

There might be an ominous little bit of truth in the stuff that she is "leaking"......

11. Unnerved by his 'late wife story", Amber asked a friend- a private detective- to check out her boyfriend. On Dec. 29th the investigator swiftly derailed her dreams. He told her the story of Scott's missing wife Laci.

Hmmm... private detective? Dec. 29th? What if it was really earlier than that?

That fits with his pattern of Eddie Haskell like behavior, I believe it.

In a Modesto Bee article published 1/5/03 under the title of Dogs and divrs go to work in San Francisco Bay it was stated that SP told police that he launched his aluminum boat at the marina, then went northwest and fished around Brooks Island.

Yeah and there aren't any sturgeon there. LOL. He wasn't seen in his boat by the many boat owners who were at the marina working on their boats. Or seen by the many visitors to the shoreline park that bordered his route. Or seen by other fishermen. His little tin boat would have stuck out like a sore thumb. There is still the question of the webcam that monitors the sailing club docks, it has a view of the route he would have taken. Never did hear if they kept the tape from 12/24 or if LE reviewed it.

Eddie Haskell

HA! Eddie really is a paradigm for that kind of thing, isn't he?

"Good afternoon, Mrs. Cleaver, Mr. Cleaver. My goodness, that's a lovely dress you're wearing, ma'am."

And then, as soon as they're out of the room....

BROOKS ISLAND

Diablo Magazine, June 2002

Wanted: someone to live on a windswept island in San Francisco Bay. Must love nature and isolation. Need strong survivor skills and sturdy boat. Roy Tedder and Heather Hailey are the "survivors" who accepted this job - as caretakers of Brooks Island. Sixty five acres of rock and sand - home to the East Bay Regional Park District's only wildlife sanctuary.

Soul-mates, Roy and Heather live their lives by the tides - which they check daily before heading ashore to do chores. Groceries and laundry, propane and more get transported by motorboat from the Richmond Marina to their modest island home. A sudden storm and the couple is stranded, sometimes for days as heavy winds whip the choppy waters.

Brooks Island is rich with history. Legend has it gold is buried here. Cellblocks at Alcatraz Prison were built with this island's rock and Bing Crosby and Trader Vic once owned a gun club here.

You need a permit to visit Brooks and the park district offers beginning kayak trips to the island. Sign up, and you may meet the couple's 50 year old oyster named "Oscar". The stories he could tell - if only he'd "come out of his shell".

1) Is the woman that saw Laci walking the dog, sure that it was Dec. 24th?

2) What was the weather like? Rain, mist, drizzle? Could or would Laci have worn a raincoat with hood to walk the dog? If so, could it have been Scott wearing Laci's raincoat with hood up, to make it appear that it was Laci walking the dog?

3) How far from Modesto to that lake? How long to get there?

4) The person that suggested that perhaps he towed the body with anchors out to a deeper spot in the lake, brings up a possibility.

5) Wasn't there recently poured concrete at the Peterson home? If so, what/where?

6)Anyone know if the home has a basement? What about a 'fake' wall?

Let's assume you've just killed your wife. It's early, very early on December 24th. Darkness. You load her body into a boat you pull behind your truck. She's well covered. You're concerned about being pulled over with her body exposed in the truck cab or bed. But what cop is going to bother a guy who is up early and on his way to catch the "big one"!?

All great fishermen get up early. They go out in the rain because the fish are biting better. A pickup zipping along at 3am might raise some suspicions in the mind of a traffic cop, but NOT a pickup hauling a boat behind. The intention is obvious. This guy is up early to be the first at his favorite fishing hole. It works as a nice deflector of curiosity.

That having been said it is possible he had to transport her body in the pickup a short distance to get it to the boat. The NE claim that LE found her blood in truck might support this scenario.

As I said months ago, I believe the water works best for the disposal of the body. Is it just sheer coincidence that he purchased the boat mere weeks before she vanishes?? I doubt it. It must have had a purpose and played a key role in his plan.

The one thing SP could absolutely NOT afford to do was to provide the police a ready made crime scene with the discovery of her body. There could have been his blood, his skin tissue under her nails caught in a struggle, fibers from his clothes, etc., not to mention it would provide clues as to how she was murdered which might not be good for ol' Scotty!

Whatever he did with her body it had to perfect and it had to be final. So far, this seems to have been borne out by the inability of the authorities and private citizens to find her remains.

One particular method of disposal would prevent the body from being "accidentally" seen by a hiker, a farmer, kids, surveyors, construction workers etc. Water. Deep enough to conceal her body from "normal" view while it decomposed.

He couldn't just dump the body along a roadside because it might have been discovered before he could establish his "abduction" theory (read bogus alibi)with the police. Much too risky.

He could have pre-dug a grave and buried her, but a fresh grave can be hard to disguise and the ground sinks rapidly as the earth re-settles. Someone might have accidentally stumbled across her burial site, or it could have been partially uncovered by wild dogs or other animals seeking carrion.

Of course we may never know exactly what happened unless he breaks, but I vote for a watery grave. From a "perfect" concealment point of view I think it works best to explain why no one has found her remains to date.

Hi rb, thanks as always for the ping. You too Tex.
I had alot of catch up to do today. Steam cleaning carpets.(new puppy)
I caught Jackie P. on Abrams last nite. It almost hurts my ears to hear her voice anymore. Of course she went on about MPD not following up on the Laci walking dog story. She was almost blaming them saying that if they had followed up right away, they may have found Laci alive. I'm sure if LE had thought they were credible, they would have followed up. After all, this was early on in the case, what else did they have to go on at the time? I don't remember if they were looking as SP so closely at that time.
Saw an interview with the Mitchells also. They looked to be in their late 70's-early 80's. Mrs. Mitchell was starting to go on about her hip surgery, and Dan cut her off.(he apologized at the end saying he had a time issue.) But I didn't find them to be dishonest, just maybe mistaken.
