John- Can you at least tell us whether it's equipment or something more sinister?
It would be really good to know out here in FREEPWORLD/

I have noticed the web is slow all over and even many yahoo Groups have been kicked offline.....I can't get to them.
This is not a FR-only problem, it appears. However, since this has been happening the past several days on FR, this leads me to believe perhaps there are other causes for FR's probs and it is not connected to the slowdown everywhere else.

I run zonealarm and I've been probed over 100 times today. That's not the record though. One day my computer was probed over 300 times.

This is probably a PacBell(SBC) related slowdown. Yahoo, MS, and I believe FR's servers all reside on this network. No note of any major hacker attacks on the security sites.

1/24/- 25/03, the slammer worm hit.....and shut down some ISP's. Wonder if it's something similar to that. Here's the internet traffic report info on that worm:

As others have already pointed out, Zone Alarm is a firewall. A firewall protects your computer from attempted intrusion. When you first install it, if you configure it to notify you when an attempted hack occurs, you'll probably be freaked out when you realize how many little probes for weaknesses and outright attack attempts you're already getting and don't know about. Most of the time these attempts fail, but Zone Alarm will give you an excellent added layer of protection. It's first-rate software.
Another piece of protection everyone should use is AVG Antivirus software. Their free version is better than any commercial package I've seen, period. Simply outstanding. Easy to use. Not a resource hog. And most importantly, detects and cures viruses that the others do not. I've turned countless people on to AVG over the past couple of years and have been thanked many many times after this little package found and fixed problems that Norton or McAfee missed altogether, or else found but couldn't eradicate. You can get AVG at this site, and no, I have no affiliation with the company nor nothing to gain from people using it. It's just a fabulous (and free!) piece of protection.

Hey smarty pants,
You might have noticed that most posters in this thread mentioned they had experienced slowdown on other websites, not just FR.
To: RobFromGa
yes, that how it starts!,the internet first,(the real information superhighway),then ham operators, later radio and last television(useless left wing media).

The forum has had this exact thing happen several times before.
Jim has not found it yet and I cannot help much at all. It seems to be related to the new format. There is some sort of weakness that is getting exploited or it is a memory allocation thing.
I wish I knew! I had heart palpitations today!LOL
