operating in both classified and unclassified modes What we see here are the unclassified resolution pictures. It is very likely that the raw data has more resolution, and that a multi-frame analysis could pull out even more detail.

take a look at photo's 1 and 2.
If you invert them, so that the left wing is the right wing, etc, and blow them up.
You will see what appears to be a bright white spot in the web area, just behind the RCC, and you will further see, two perhaps 3 light spots, right on the RCC. All these are where we see there were perhaps tile problems from the hit.

Difficult to tell anything, could be the light because the angle is not the same on both wings.
I would not expect to see any damage on the tops, but it could be the piss ice.

There is a press conference on NASA tv. Not sure if it is live or recored.

I am modem challenged........Someone will need to summarize.
To: Flurry
Dang, my thoughts too.

Sorrry I didn't get back to you but I wanted to listen the the briefing. I hope you can get a transcript because they covered the data of the last 32 seconds. Most but not allsystems were functioning at the end of that 32 seconds. It showed that the APUs were working but they lost hydraulic pressure in the left wing area and it showed it had 0 fluid in the reservoir.
I don't know if they have a site where you can see when they will rerun the video.

They are not, to my knowledge. The sunlight is comming from the left and it seems to have caused some shadows. The rest is illuminated by earthlight.

That may be true. The door is not one piece, but is sectioned.

It just dawned on me that they are likely using the doors to regulate the external temps of the lab. They want it warmed up, but not too hot. The bottom of the shuttle would be exposed to cold space.

Yes, and perhaps it could be a hole in the wing, and sunlight shining through. (though this is not probable). And it also may be a 'lense flare'. but it surely is strange, and out of character with the rest of the photos. Especially photo #1.

the doors serve several functions, in addition to 'doors', they act like mirrors, to reflect heat, or to concentrate heat, and they also have 'plumbing' in them to act as radiators to get rid of heat.

The doors are built in 5 sections per side, but open and close as one piece per side. You're seeing the heat radiators which fill the inside front half of each door and can be raised about 30 degrees from the doors, once they're open.
To: John Jamieson
I looked again ..... they do look funny.
To: John Jamieson
Thanks, I heard about the radiators, but never saw them in operation.
I would guess that they pretty much control the temperature of the lab my manipulating all this hardware, as they orbit.
To: wirestripper
It almost looks like there is an extra set of radiators inside the back doors???
