Very true. Any one of the following might have diverted disaster:
* not setting off pyrotechnics when there's a low ceiling (fault: band)
* not having flammable materials so close to the stage (fault: club)
* not being approved to have 300+ people in a crowded SRO situation (fault: fire inspectors)
* having better exits that are more clearly marked (fault: club)
* not waiting until 11 p.m. to bring out the main event, thereby ensuring an audience that had probably been drinking and drugging excessively (fault: fans)
Just improve a few of these variables and there would have been either no fatalities or a mere few. But mix them all together and you have the recipe for catastrophe.
Since none of the parties have very deep pockets, I would hope the focus would be towards future prevention efforts rather than finding legal fault and trying to make one party the scapegoat for everything that happened that night.
You know what, I was thinking the SAME thing when I posted that.......and remember that the Beatles weren't the only people appearing!
I fondly remember being old enough to intimidate the young girls into giving us their binoculars to use.
Just FYI-I know this is an old thread, but this band sold millions of albums in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They were once quite popular. They're a bit old and washed-up now.
Remember the song "Once Bitten Twice Shy?" That was them. Well they redid it in 1989 but their remake was 100 times more well known than Ian Hunter's original version in the '70s.
They were good and likeable. Not world-class musicians, but decent.
Their signature tune, if you mean "Once Bitten Twice Shy" was in no way their best work. Look at other stuff-
Old Rose Motel
Rock Me
Face the Day
Shot in the Dark
All much better work.
The band was greatly overrated. They suck... hairspray, junkies and lot lizard chicks...
People died for stupidity. I will bet quite a few of them were so drunk they didn't know there was a fire until it was too late.
Their 3 minutes of fame was a video with a chick dressed up like a mermaid when King Diamond hosted Headbanger's Ball...
From my experience as a stage crew manager that case is locked and marked. At least my experience when the band Cinderella(sp) played at the local fair some years ago.All of us knew ahead of time,at least I was told there would be piro used.
You are right it can be very hectic with the change over between bands, especially if the first band has alot of stuff on stage.
From my experience you are exactly right. They are usually the first of the bus or truck and they track down who's in charge,to check out the stage and to make sure the stage crew is there to help with the load out.Sometimes they can be very nice (mostly Country bands),and sometimes assholes (usually Rock bands).
By the way are you a promoter?
Oh yeah, I remember them now. Goodness, how far they fell since '89!
Well I guess I shouldn't tell you about the mullet I once sported in middle school...(circa 1989)...
I had a Mohawk...
