Don't expect any criminal prosecution of the officer for this one. After all, police are allowed to kill or maim anyone without any personal consequences ever. The taxpayers might get hit for a substantial settlement, but the cop who did it? Never.

"...the SUV trampled them."

This type of phrasing is "journalism?"

''It was a pure accident,'' one said. "I feel really sorry for the policeman.''

Gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Manslaughter.

But he will not get a fair trial, because on the one hand he's a cop with "diplomatic immunity" before the judge, while on the other hand, if he can be hung in order to give satisfaction to foreign relations ... well, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

There, but for the Grace of God, go I.

Why would any Frenchy want to sun bathe on one of the Great Satan's beaches?

This is exactly the type of comment that I hoped not to see on this thread.

He has a pretty good point, albeit taken to an absurd conclusion.

Cops do seem to get cut a lot more slack on stuff like this, and its pretty apparent that there is a pervasive attitude of recklessness toward civilians in many departments across the country.

Sure Sure, FEEB agent shoots guy in face with M-16 - no consequences. Swat goon murders 12 year old - shoots him in the back with a shotgun while the 12 year old is lying on the floor - no consequences. Cop kills guy in costume at Halloween party by shooting him through the window - no consequences. Just a few examples of a great many unpunished crimes. Show me some examples where cops have been criminally prosecuted for killing somone when they were on duty in the last couple of years. You can't because there aren't any.

If a non-cop had run them over he would be:

a) On paid leave pending investigation, which could take a while.

b) Hoping his employer would come up with enough taxpayer money to make the problem go away.

c) In a jail cell unable to make bail, fired, and waaaaaay up a creek.

What a sad comment on our time:

1) Foolish police officers incapable of doing their job, killing innocent civilians. This is clearly manslaughter.

2) A press so ignorant and consumed with political correctness that they write headlines to lead the impression that a type of vehicle killed the victim and not the negligence of the operator.

And they wonder why their circulation is down?

God help us all.

You can't because there aren't any.

Unlike criminals, police don't shoot people for a goof. Shooting a suspect during a crime is different from a guy shooting a 7-11 cashier during a robbery.

The couple said the white SUV was moving slowly -- ''just a crawl'' -- when it sliced through the sands of South Beach, leaving the hard sand area and moving in a direct line toward the 14th Street life guard's tower.

It's alive!

In none of the examples cited was there a crime being committed. One was a botched felony stop (gee, there's been a few of those lately), and the other was just pure stupidity. In neither case was the shooting anywhere near a crime scene.

Reasonable people can disagree on these cases, but these is an easy test to separate the jackboot-lickers from the rest:

Is the Environmental Protection Agency constitutional?

Is the Department of Education constitutional?

Is the Drug Enforcement Agency constitutional?

What part of "shall not be infringed" does the BATF not understand?

Do you have any unenumerated rights and what are they?

The hard core shills that never find anything wrong with any act of any LEO never provide answers to any of these questions. The "unenumerated rights" one is particularly telling, since LEOs are now trained to treat anyone who cites the Constitution as a clone of Timothy McVeigh.
